Strut10
Pulled my cards yesterday. The cameras had been set since our firearms season for deer went out. I was hoping that Santa Claus had left me a reason to go hang off the side of a tree in frigid weather with my bow. The old fart stood me up. Coal in my late archery stocking. Got pics of several bucks, but no shooters. Did get this pic of a hopeful candidate for next year. The camera was set on an old woods workroad about 16-18 yards below one of my ladderstands. Hopefully he doesn't move out of the country before next season.

Tominator
Good looking deer Don. He looks fat. Now, around here, that's a 1.5 year old. That hold true for your area? His body looks 2.5.
Strut10
Now, around here, that's a 1.5 year old. That hold true for your area? His body looks 2.5. This deer is an average or a bit below average 2.5 year old. In these parts, a 2.5 year deer with good genetics will go 105"-120" and field dress 150-165 lbs. or so. Problem is.....we have so many crappy 1.5 year olds anymore that a lot of the 2.5's are way inferior to this buck. Like this guy: Not sure how old this deer is. But he's not 1.5. He's our breeding stock. Don't know if you recall the pic of Lil Strut10's archery buck? 13 1/2" inside spread......dressed at around 140 lbs. That's as big as a 1.5 year deer will mostly ever get here. That deer would have been borderline P&Y next year. Used to be a lot more of those running around, say 8 or 10 years ago. Strut10
Wow. That is one of the saddest looking spikes I've ever seen. lol. Sorry. I could (maybe I will) do a whole thread on pics of the saddest bucks you've ever seen. I'm gonna' tie an Ohio buck down and ship if off to the Strut ranch one of these days. Any boost to our gene pool would be gladly accepted. Thank you, sir!!
