MichiganHunter
Hey alan long time no talk, you been hunting yet? So anyways I would say that the 1000+ range will be the way to go for an all day sitting hunt. I have CRAP luck with buying boots because I need a 15E or a 14EEEE boot and I can NEVER find ANYTHING. BUT I just got my girlfriend a set of rocky blizzard stalker in 1,200g and she is the typical girl with cold feet all the time and she said she was very comfortable. they are a mens boot with a high ankle which I belive is important with any real good hunting boot. I would highly recomend them.
redkneck
They don't have a thinsulate rating, but these muck woody max I got are the warmest things I ever had. A little TOO warm for down here. Thinking of trying to clean them up and exchanging them for something a little cooler!
wtnhunt
Check out cabelas lines of boots. I am currently using a pair of cabelas 400 gram rubber boots here for the cool season, when it gets in the teens or below I will usually use boot blankets. My wife and daughter wear 800 gram cabelas rubber boots, don't usually hear them complain about feet getting cold with those boots. Would think 1000-1200 gram boots should work well for colder climates, might want to consider a pair of boot blankets if you plan to sit in single digits or lower all day though. Adjam5
Hey Alan.... I am a fan of LaCrosse boots. I wear the Alpha Burly Lite and have never been cold. They are easy on and easy off. A Knee high rubber boot with 1000grams of thinsulate. All I wear outside of turkey hunting. You might want to go to a store to try on the boots. There is such a selection out there, it might be hard to pick boots out a catalog. Rubber boota re best for scent concealment when walking. Turkeygirl
Muck are good boots and so are Lacrosse! I've kind of fallen away from Muck and stuck with Lacrosse, just love them!

ALAN
when buying a pair of boots do u want a bigger size??? like if you wear a size 12 shoe get a 14 or 15 boot??
MichiganHunter
I would say when you go try them on take a set of your heavy hunting socks with you and just try on the next half size if you can. Like I said I am basically stuck with what I can find.

wtnhunt
when buying a pair of boots do u want a bigger size??? like if you wear a size 12 shoe get a 14 or 15 boot?? Depends on the fit. If possible try them on with heavy socks. I wear size 13 wides and most of the time the boots I have bought in 13 wides have fit fine, my shoe size is probably closer to a 12.5. That said my snake boots would not work well with heavy socks and they are also a 13 wide.
johnf
I've got a pair of 1000gr. boots and my feet freeze in them. After complaining about it to a friend he suggested getting my next pair 1/2 size big. I've got 3 pair now that are all 1/2 size big. 400, 600, 800gr. Very rarely do the 800's come out. If it's really cold (20's down here) I wear the 600's with a pair of silk socks covered by a thin pair of wool socks.
brownie65
I have never been able to find a pair of boots that my feet will not get cold in. I have some Irish Setters that work very good but if it is really cold my feet will still get cold. I am a hige fan of boot blankets. I have one of the big set of boot blankets and a set of artic shield ones that are allot smaller in size & easy to pack. Both work great cured my cold feet. Tony
if your stand hunting then the boot blankets are the way to go. i have the ones from Ice Breaker and they work great. you carry them in, slip them over your boots or take your boots off and put a couple of hand warmers in and bingo warm feet. toddyboman
if your stand hunting then the boot blankets are the way to go. Good point Tony..... Boot Blankets are great for sitting on stand....but if you are walking they won't last or work so well.
backwoods07
I wear 800 gram Red Wings. Over the years, I discovered the trick to staying warm in these boots. One pair of socks, and tuck your pants in to your boots. I hunted in 7 degree weather and my feet were the warmest part of me!

Never tried walking in mine in the field. Usually carry them over my shoulder until I get whhere I am going, the ones I have are too big to fit in a pack. woodshed
I'm a cold feet quick kind of guy. When it gets below 20 my 1500 gram rubber boots didn't do squat for heat. I've recently bought Cabelas 2000 gram boots. I love them and don't even think about my feet now. They are not even chilled. One wool sock and that's it. I tried a liner, sweat in them and I was cold. After that only 1 wool and we're down in the teens and singles this week with not a thought of cold in my feet!! Cabelas 2000 gram boot was on sale for 119.
BearClaw
I just spent the entire day out in the snow with around low to mid 20 temperatures and my Iron Ridge boots by Cabela's did a a great job. Used two pair of thin wicking socks and the 40 below socks from Gander. Feet stayed dry and warm all day!
