shedhunternick
Could somebody suggest a starter kit for a deer shoulder mount? I have a deer in the freezer that needs mounted and would rather learn how to mount something than spend 300+ dollers getting it done. I have a good background in fur handling/skinning due to trapping and deer skinning during deer season. Plenty of time and patience. So i know all that kind of stuff and it doesnt gross me out. Any pointers would also be appreciated. thanks nick
RTF
Start with a video then decide if it's for you. There is no such thing as a kit. http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/product/90100110/whitetail-deer-mounting-vhs

TN Bucknasty
Remember that the most important part of the whole mount is the eyes. If you're eyes are uneven, the mount will look 100% retarded. Ears are also something else that are commonly messed up. If you arent careful, they'll be uneven and they may even curl up on you. My best advice would be to hang out for a couple of weeks at a good taxidermist's shop and watch how he does things. I've never seen anyone's first mount that looked good including the first one that I ever did. Here's a picture of it. Hide was rough, one eye lid is bigger than the other. I keep it around to remind me of how far I've come.
TN Bucknasty
Here's one I did last year using the exact same materials and the same form. I still don't like this particular form very much but, that's what the customer wanted.
