Turkeygirl
Andy went to a local man-made small lake on state land yesterday ice fishing and came home with some nice brookies. He went back today and I went and we slammed them! I got some photos I'll post later or tomorrow. We had some for dinner and some more are being brined to go in the smoker. The lake gets stocked with them, I don't know how often, but they don't taste like stockies so they've been in there awhile. What's weird is almost every fish though on it's back around it's dorsal fin would be a puncture wound on it's side, or a spot where a wound healed or a leech was stuck on it. Not sure what was grabbing them, maybe Bald Eagles before the lake froze over, or else snapping turtles...Either way every other fish had a mark like that. Oh yeah caught them on jigging poles and tip-ups rigged with little jigs with a larva grub thing or mousie grub thing.
Strut10
Sounds like some good eatin'!! Better you than me, though. I love to fish. I drive 1300 miles one way to fish for walleyes. But I wouldn't walk across my yard to sit on ice and fish. I'll leave that to you cold-hardy folk.
Gerhard
Sounds like you had fun. I am planning a fly fishing trip for Wednesday here in South Africa. The current temp here is around 80 to 85F so its a bit different from the ice fishing you guys are doing.
ruttinbuc
Sounds like a great time! Those marks were not that made by a tag were they could be tag marks, Ruth...??? Might have studied these fish before they threw them in. If the marks are pretty consistent and not random?? Ice fishing can be a blast. I have been thinking about getting back out there as soon as we have some stable ice.
danthehuntinman
If they all have marks on them they may be mad by the dnr to make the stocked fish. I have trout fished in a few states and they cut the little fin behind the dorsal fin to show that its stocked.
RangerClay
Where are those pics Ruth?? Btw? Does this pond have special regulations for catching trout in the winter since season is closed?

gzilla45
Sounds like fun. The ice fishing has been terrible around here this year and I can't figure out why.
