fly
Anyone use these? I'm thinking about trying out the 100 or 125 grain Phat heads.
Straight Shooter
No, sure haven't but if they perform anything like the Magnus Stingers. They should do just fine.
ruttinbuc
I never used the Phatheads but have used Steel Force Sabertooth's in the past. I know I never had a problem getting them to fly and they did a good job killing deer. The only difference I see in the head is the straight edge. I used them when they first came out for a couple of years. I ended up going back to Muzzys though.
PotashRLS
We tried them when they first came out. My brother shot a doe (double lung) and nearly didn't recover her due to the poor bloodtrail. We ended up finding her when we did a grid search of the area. She only went a hundred yards or so but the small cutting diameter left most of the blood inside her. I do think they are a well made head and believe penetration with them would be good but if you can't use blood to find your deer, what are you gaining? JMHO. Prairiepredator
I have never used them, but those phat heads seem to be pretty good. I have heard when you hit bone on an animal with the longer bladed ones, the blade will bend pretty badly.
stcif
I've been thinking of trying these. The price is what's holding me back. http://www.3riversarchery.com/Product.asp?show=rate&c=57&s=70&p=100&i=5788X#full

I was thinking about the phatheads. ruttinbuc
I used a lot of broadheads and some mechanical s over the years and have come to the conclusion that they all will do their job if you hit the deer right. There are variables involved with all of them. I heart shot a deer that ran 100 yds and only had blood the last 10. I hit one on the exhale and watched the explosion of blood splatter the nearby vegetation only to come up deer less. These heads are tools in the arsenal. You have to see what works for you and put trust in it and then do your job with that tool. The hype in all of this stuff is incredible. If you look back many times there was never a reason to switch from what worked before.

I know all broadheads will do the job if put in the right place, but I have noticed they are not all created equal. What I mean by that is some simply are not as durable as others. It is costly experimenting with different brands, but it is also part of what keeps me interested. Life would be simpler though if I just stuck with one thing. Strut10
I use the Premium 100's. Switched over from Montecs after a bum result on a good hit. Have not shot a deer with them yet. But I do know that there's not a fixed blade head that flies any better. I've shot them to 308-310 fps and they'll group 3" at 30 yards. For the way I shoot, that's incredible. Lil Strut10 uses the 65 gr. Titanium 2-blades. His first deer dropped in its tracks........and it was not spineshot. Blood everywhere (the deer was wiped off for the photo). fly
That's a great first deer LilStrut! Glad to hear the positive comments regarding steelforce, thanks everyone. I ordered some of the 100 grain phatheads tonight and went to my pro-shop and had the poundage upped to 70 pounds. My speed was clocked at 270 fps. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try the new combo out on a deer before the season ends on the 17th.
