Gator
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A state legislator from Norman says Oklahomans should be able to buy guns a few days each year without paying taxes on them. State Sen. John Sparks, a Democrat, is proposing legislation that he says would set up a "Second Amendment Weekend." If fellow lawmakers approve the measure and becomes law, all rifles, handguns and shotguns would be tax free on a few days a year. The measure would not apply to gun accessories. Sparks said the tax break is a good idea even in a recession. "I don't think there is ever a bad time to defend our Second Amendment rights, and I think we should do so every chance we get," Sparks said. Similar proposals have been approved in other states. Jeramie
He's a Democrat???? We are a seriously red state. We do have some Democrats but they are actually Red Democrats. One of the biggest forces against Obama and his health care plan is a democrat, one of the biggest gun supporters is an Oklahoma Democrat, etc. Our democrats are Republicans in Democrat clothing. MCH
This would be perfect for me. Plan on spending quite a bit sometime between now and June on a new rifle. Will have to keep an eye on this legislation, but with my luck, it will be just like every other "helpful" piece of legislation....I probably won't see it in my lifetime. wtnhunt
Sales tax rates here are ridiculous, saved around $100 in sales tax on my browning by finding it through an online dealer out of state. They do a tax free weekend here for school supplies, would be nice if they did pass similar legislation here.

No... I havent forgot that. We are hosed because of those votes. Still, we are far more red than a lot of states with our gun laws, abortion laws, etc.

hammerforged
South Carolina has 2 tax free weekends, one with a huge laundry list of items right before school starts (includes firearms) and then another one just for firearms between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
