Bushmaster

Sorry to start a new AR thread, but since it is about manufacturers, I wanted to get opinions. I was thinking Rock River before, but my local gun dealer suggested I look at a Bushmaster. He can get me the Bushmaster Optics Ready version for $850 (tax free for me because of work).

I have heard good things about Bushmaster, but wanted to hear your thoughts. States to me he gets them in 2 days....

I have 3 AR's. A Colt, BushMaster and a Stag Arms.

The Colt has the best factory trigger of the bunch. I changed the Bushy to a 2 stage trigger. It is the yote gun.

The Stag factory trigger is not crisp when it breaks and has lots of creep. It can be changed but everything costs $.

William(WTNHUNT) has a RR AR he is very happy with. I don't know if he has a 2 stage trigger in it.

The lowers are all machined to exact tolerances so the gun can be modular. Everything is CNC made so outside the metal composition of the receiver and finish. All things should be equal with most popular manufacturers. The name brands have the name. But some little known brands are also known for hi quality lowers and uppers.

I plan on putting an AR in layaway soon and would like to have one chambered in 308 with atleast a 20" barrell.I have been looking at the stag arms model 7 hunter. It has a 20.&" barrell but is chambered in 6.8.I know nothing aboout this caliber, would it be a good caliber for deer or should I go with a 223.The gun would be used mainly for deer but yotes and groundhogs as well.Remington makes some nice looking ar's also.

This may be old news to some...,

but keep in mind a 5.56 chambered AR can feed .223 Remington. But a .223 Remington chamber CANNOT feed 5.56 NATO ammo.

Rock River Arms has come up with an answer to that. They chamber some of their AR's to .223 Wylde chamber.

From the RR web site:

The .223 Wylde chamber was designed as a match chambering for semi-automatic rifles. It will accommodate both .223 Rem and 5.56mm NATO ammunition. It is relieved in the case body to aid in extraction and features a shorter throat for improved accuracy.

Yep, Anthony is correct, I have the rr varmint model with the 2 stage national match trigger. The dpms panther I have on order in .308 which is supposed to have already been done, has a jp trigger. Reminds me I need to check back on it this coming week.

Anthony is correct on the .223 wylde chambering as well. Think jp enterprises also offers the .223 wylde chambering.

Have heard good things about the bushmasters.

Can't go wrong with a Bushmaster Ken.

I would consider a different forend. One with rails to mount a vertical foreward grip, bipod and/or laser/light combo. The rails also give a better gripping surface than the plastic.

As far as red dot goes. Give this one good consideration.

I have this exact one on my M4. Great price on a optic that delivers a lot for the money. It also comes with mounts for the optic. Aim with both eyes open.

Good Luck Ken.

That model is not exactly NY legal ya know, just so you know before buying. You would have to change the flash hider to a suppressor and the adjustable stock to a fixed.

Paul...Swampy is Law enforcement, and with a letter from his C.O. he can legally make the purchase with the dreaded threaded barrel/flash suppressor, 6 position stock and bayonet lug. Not that any of it is necessary for function or accuracy.

Ken, might be better off getting a post ban model or NY legal AR. If you retire, will you still be able to maintain possession of that evil black rifle if you get it with the No no's of the AWB?

I actually did by the civilian compliant model. I have the letterhead from work and had the one I wanted all picked out but the fact that I am eligible to retire in 38 days, I decided to go with the "civilian friendly" model. I went with the Bushmaster Optics Ready Carbine, and it is sent with a pinned 6 position stock, and sweated on izzy muzzle brake as opposed to the flash suppressor, and the bayonet lug is milled off.

Here it is. Total price $873 I don't have to pay tax on it...
