Need some prayers

Just talked to my mother and my grandfather is in bad, bad shape. Here's the story. Tuesday he went in for minor hip surgery. That went fine, but the pain medicine they gave him caused a bad alergic reaction. After 'sleeping' for 7 hours, my aunt Marie realized something was wrong, and finally, she got a nurse to look at him and they determined he was in a coma. They couldn't contact his doctor, so they called in an ER doctor who gave him something which immediately brought him back to conciousness. Since then, he's been paranoid and delusional. He thinks that he is wanted for the Atlanta child murders from the early 80s; he thinks the wall paper border on the walls is bugged and receiving all his e-mails; he thinks his 4 daughters and 1 son are at the hospital to kill him and are in cahoots with the doctors and nurses to have him arrested and make him dig ditches all day. You have to understand this man, he is a retired engineer with 4 degrees from Georgia Tech, and he has never exhibited any signs of alzheimers at all. He's brilliant. I just talked to him last Sunday and he gave me very detailed advice on which mutual funds to put my 401k in. Sharp as a tack.

They finally did some tests and determined that he has too much creatine in his urine, which is diminishing his kidney functions so he can't get the medicine out of his system.

My uncle flew in from Kansas last night with nothing but the clothes on his back and he really kicked the medical staff into gear. He walked in and, as my mom said, "heads rolled". He started barking out orders and once it was established that he has as much, if not more, medical training as the nurses (he has paramedic training), things started happening. So, between him and my mom, who are both experienced in the medical field, they had to do something.

My mom witheld all this from me until I got back into town today since she didn't want my attention anywhere but on the road, which I understand.

I know all this info wasn't really necessary, but I had to let it out somewhere. My mom has always depended on me to be her rock, so I had to keep it in when I talke dto her, so I hope you don't mind me letting it out here. Thanks.

Re: Need some prayers

You got it bud.

I hope things work out. It doesn't sound too bad though. I had a bad reaction to Percodan on my second chest surgery. I basically had a panic attack, and to be honest, I don't remember what I did or said, but I do remember trying to pull out my IV and giving the nurse some choice words.

Anyway, I'm betting he'll be fine. Dump on us any time bud. You have my number too, don't you?
