bowhuntMN
I think we've all seen the commercials from groups like the ASPCA and the Humane Society with the beaten and neglected dogs and cats looking up at the camera while the song "In the Arms an Angel" tugs at your heart strings and plays somberly in the background. You can't help but want to help a dog or cat like that find a home. So, being the uneducated person i used to be, gave change every so often at gas stations and fast food restaurants to those groups thinking it all went into helping domesticated animals find loving homes. But today, after taking a look at their websites and reading about their stances on certain issues, i feel like the biggest dummy in the world. Their views of hunting, fishing, trapping, and just about any outdoor activity you can think of, are completely irrational and purely emotional! They have no backing of their stances on hunting/trapping other than the opinions of their members! I wish these people were more open to the lifestyle that we as outdoorsman love. They need to see first-hand what being a sportsman is all about. It's about the family participation, the stories at deer camp, the time spent around a camp fire with friends and family, stewardship for the land and respect for the game. Not shooting every Bambi and Thumper you see. Overall, it seemed to me like these groups are uneducated and shouldn't take a stance against something they have never been open to or experienced. In a perfect world, there would be a group run completely by outdoorsmen that raised money for abused and neglected domestic animals much like these groups do, while also bringing to light our hunting/fishing/trapping passions to these extremely radical and emotional groups. P.S.: To the ASPCA and the HSUS, I want my money back
sluggunner
Like they say... Knowledge is power. I wish more people would educate themselves about things BEFORE they chose to participate, donate or mosst important of all VOTE. We wouldn't have many of the problems we now have if people took the time to get educated first about the possible impact that may results from the decisions thye make. Now you know, don't be afraid to spread the word to all of your friends and families who may not know.
Adjam5
Animals should not be abused period. Hunters and outdoors folk have the utmost respect for wildlife/pets and we are not the problem. Animal advocates are severely misinformed. Then again, the truth never gets in the way of their propaganda. But as far as animal rights go. Animals have no rights. OUR Constitution says" we the people", not "we the people and the animals". Bunny huggers love hearing that one .
Doe-ee
We have our own reasons for not supporting our spca here. Years ago we took our daughter (then 8) there to pick out a cat. She chose a cute little kitten but had to wait the required week to "think about it" before she could claim it. We paid the $65 and took the cat directly from there to our vet for a check-up. The vet didn't like the look of the cat as he suspected it had distemper. He called the spca to inform them of his fear and they told him that they already knew about it and that they were in the process right then, of destroying all the cats in their possession. We had only left there a half hour before! The spca called and told us that when the cat dies we were to put it in a bag and take it back to them, and we could then pick out another one. Ya right. After many sleepless nights of around the clock syringe feeding and the prayers of an 8 year old, the kitten miraculously survived. I'm still mad that the only thing they truly care about is their bottom line. Needless to say, we haven't supported them since.
stevebeilgard
i'm glad you got your education. we all want to help, we just don't want all our money going to anti hunting causes and killing the very animals they were to help. another example is the make a wish foundation. poor little kids with a life threatening illness... we all want to help. so , we give them money. but if the kid wants to go hunting or fishing, noooo. can't hurt animals. so make a wish won't allow it. my money now days goes to hunt of a lifetime or catch a dream. they take kids who want to hunt & fish out hunting and fishing. no more support for make a wish. They're misinformed as to who we are as hunters and like you said we have the utmost respect for wildlife and animals because without them we wouldn't be able to hunt or fish.
