First kill of 2010

Set a deer carcass out with a camera on it yesterday afternoon and was hoping to catch some yotes this weekend, had gone out yesterday afternoon and this morning with the .223. Took the .270 with me this afternoon instead thinking I may just pop a doe for the freezer and this kitty came in and was around 170 yards out when I shot. Not the biggest cat I have ever seen out here, but a pretty decent sized one.

Very nice William. Good shooting on such a small target;).

What did it weigh?

Are you going to clean up the skull also?

Bobcat skulls are pretty with all them teeth.

Congrats.

Really not sure how much it weighed, never did weigh it. If I had to guess, would guess around 23-25 lbs, felt a lot heavier than that by the time I got back to the house.

Thought about the skull and forgot to say anything to the taxidermist when I dropped it off. Glad you posted, I just called him and asked him to save it for me.;)

Thanks everyone. I had shot a smaller one in our first rifle season we never found, we think that cat managed somehow to climb up a hollowed out tree.

That is a HUGE Bobcat at that weight!

We get them up here in the 10-20lb range.

That will make a great mount a cat that size.

Again...congrats.

Taxidermist said he thought it would take the one of the larger forms.

Wish I had taken pics of the front feet inside my palms with the claws out.

I have seen some pretty big cats here outside of our season on them, got what I thought was a big one on video a few years ago during our youth hunt and the wife saw a monster cat under our box blind that same year in our ml season. There have been some rather large bobcats killed in this area, heard of one this year that got killed just across the highway by a kid that supposedly went close to 50 lbs, that according to the kid and his father who is a coach at my daughters school. Supposedly the game warden said it was the biggest bobcat he had ever seen. I have never seen one that I thought would go much more than 30 lbs.

That is a nice cat. We have to apply for a tag and may draw only every 3-5 years. One would think we have a large enough population to hunt them more. How does your license work there??? Seems sometimes licenses and tags are a lot about the $$

Small game, no draw. Season on cats opens around the deer rifle season and runs into February.

That is a great cat there William, and we have to go through the same thing here in PA as potash said. That and I have only seen 2 cats while hunting so I guess I'll just keep looking at all the dead cats here. LOL

That's pretty cool William.

No season on them in Ohio, they are totally protected here. Not many of them around.

I usually see a couple here every year, but usually before the season on them opens up. I actually have had a few in bow range and had to let them walk past.

Saw 2 this year while the season for them was open. Cat season here is still open, runs into February. Plan to try to get out and call some the next few weekends if I can.

Videos below were both shot before the season for cats here opened up.

Would guess this cat to be in the 20 lb range, that is a rabbit in its mouth.

Clip from the 2008 youth hunt with a pretty good sized cat near the beginning of the clip, figured this cat was over 25 lbs, probably just a little bigger than the one I killed a couple weeks ago.
