December 28&29 was slow hunting around Amagon,Arkansas.2 days with 6 hunters all we got was a drake mallard. The outfitter chargers $180 per hunter per day.He was as honest as the day is long.Billy Tate felt bad there were no ducks around this year and told us there was no charge for hunting on his property. We did tip the guide for his service.3 hunters went back home a day early. My brother, nephew and I stayed and spent time with mom.We found a place advertised in the newspaper for $100 per gun.It was about 20 miles from Stuttgart,Arkansas. We went December 29 and did kill 5 ducks-1 gadwall,1 widgen,1 mallard and 2 green wing teal. Not the the best hunt but we had lots of fun.

Ya'll need to hunt the pacific fly way.

Still hot and heavy over here. We are finally starting to see thousands of mature pintails!

I will be out on the river tomorrow for ducks, fields on Saturday for Geese and river again for ducks and geese on Sunday. Hopefully it will be good.

Things changed recently! We had a winter blast that hit last week. The Mallards finaly moved through. They are still comming. We are covered up with green heads and geese right now. Ive seen a lot of different ponds, lakes, and rivers loaded!

Sounds like you just hit at the wrong time. The pattern was very different this year.

My father in law has a great duck hunting spot off the white river next to stuttgart. He usually limits out on greenheads within an hour. This year he has shot a total of 4 ducks. Lots of water and farmers weren't able to harvest bean fields due to late summer flooding so the ducks weren't leaving the bean fields. Everyone I have talked to in Arkansas says this is the worst year they have seen in a while. Especially since the freeze around Christmas time.

Too much water and too much ice. Been a tough December for Arkansas duck hunters based on my friends reports who are hunting there. I had actually planned to be there in December but it didn't work out. I was told I didn't miss anything. I didn't doubt it. Looks like you experienced the same they did. When it's good in Arkansas it's awesome! Don't let this trip be your last there.

It was a really odd year. The hunts were either great or horrible. I never had just a good or decent hunt.

We did have a TON of ice this year but it actually made one of my hunts incredible.

Im still seeing ducks (going again this weekend). And thousands of geese.

You must have access to some open water. Usually river hunts really crank up when the ice is bad.

Yes I do but the best hunt I had this year I just busted ice off of one of our ponds and tossed in a few decoys. The gadwall covered me right at daylight!

I actually live on the south end of Lake Hudson, which puts me close to the Grand River too. I have access to thousands of acres of water and public hunting within 5 miles of the house. We also have a ton of creeks. When the ice hit the birds really hit the creeks too.
