Guest wthomaslee
I am looking for a 30-30 with a non micro-groove barrel. I have done searches with auction arms and gun broker and have not found any. All have micro grooves. I belive that the micro groove barrels foul out too soon compared to the larger rifles found on the older ones. The rifle is for my sister. It seems that its the only cal. that she can shoot even after shooting my wifes 243. The 30-30 I have was given to my by my dad when I was a boy and really don't want to give it up. Any help would be appreciated. If ya'll think that the new micro barrel will work I will try one but I am leary to go on my own because they are so small even when new. hangunnr
Re: 30-30 non micro groove barrel Unless I'm mistaken the only company that uses "micro groove" barrels is Marlin. Winchesters should have standard rifled barrels. You can also get Contender / Encore barrels in 30-30 if you feel inclined to have a single shot. hangunnr

GWSmith
Re: 30-30 non micro groove barrel Never had any problems with mine...probably because I am obsessive about cleaning it. My Father has a pre64 model 94 Win that has the standard groove barrel....I agree as well..Marlin is the only one to my knowledge that uses the patented "Micro-Groove" barrel
Modillo
Re: 30-30 non micro groove barrel let her pick her own rifle out. 243 is good but like i said lewt her pick it out let her chose for all other different callbers and stock styles.if you got the money and you are into reloading call and ask one of your better known companys to build a rilfe that would fit her and make it in the 30-30whinchester but you can reload the 30-30 with different styles of bullets and pwder charges. all your over the counter shells in the 30-30 are not pointed bullets if u reload say with a 150 .06 bullet its pointed which will flaten out and speed up your bullet. which increases your range and power. most of your lvler aciton are tube fed and cant use pointed bullets.so in turn they are rounded for flat nose bullets. a 270 is what my mom uses we cut it down to fit her. note: when we first got it it kicked her all over the place, and we cut it down for her and fitted it to her and it dont hurt her any more. all a 270 is a .06 necked down to a 27 cal. but note again: it depends on what your hunting and if u are not into reloadin. i shoot a savage model (plain jane 110)110 in the 7mm rem mag. for me great gun. but its dpends on her really. if your wife's 243 hurt your sister it probly due to the fact it did not fit your sister. your sister will like it a lot more and shoot more if she did. well thats all i got to say. foregive me for my bluntness i dont mean to make any one upset and good luck. modillo
