Jeramie
So typically we have fairly cold winters, some snow, and lots of ice. The ice hits early, followed by cold weather (lows in the single digits to teens, highs typically 20's and sometimes teens), and then we have a dusting up to a couple of inches of snow once or twice.... The weather changes, the fish start spawning, God is in his Heaven and all is right with the world.... Not this year.... We had the "White" Christmas which dumped over 10" of snow in the NE Corner and 14" around Oklahoma City. This week we have had snow 3 times, the most recent was yesterday where we picked up another 2"! We have more snow in the forecast for this week and it was snowing this morning when I left the house. The cold hit HARD. We have freeze warnings all week and aren’t supposed to rise above freezing. The low Thursday and Friday night is 0 (Yep, zero). Wind chills will be down to -25f and the wind will be a brisk breeze at 20-35mph. The only thing we are missing is the measurable ice (which I can live with). .........boy, that Al Gore is on to something.........
Shaun_300
Sounds like you're getting some of the stuff we get all the time down there! Stay warm eh.
Jeramie
Sounds like you're getting some of the stuff we get all the time down there! Stay warm eh. The trick is going to be keeping the water from freezing going to the house. Our Heater is also working overtime trying to keep up. Most systems (including water) aren't setup for that type of cold! We stayed at 8deg for a couple of days last year and everything froze! Our frostline is very shallow and most pipes only have to be in the ground 24"! Ya'll can have this back... Jeramie
Hope ya staying warm...burst pipes and no water is not fun. Compounded by the cold and snow.:hammer1: OUCH. How do you heat? All electric with a backup propane tank and heater in case the electric goes out. We have a heat pump (cant stand it). We are talking about upgrading the central unit in the next few years as well as adding a wood stove for the extra heat and appeal.
wtnhunt
Looks like you are sending it our way. lol. Just saw this special weather alert this morning in our forecast: ... ACCUMULATING SNOW WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY TO BE FOLLOWED BY EXTREMELY COLD AIR FOR THE LATTER PART OF THE WEEK... A STRONG ARCTIC COLD FRONT WILL PUSH THROUGH THE MIDSOUTH THURSDAY. ACCUMULATING SNOW IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE FRONT IS LIKELY WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY. EXACT SNOW AMOUNTS REMAIN UNCERTAIN AT THIS TIME... BUT PLANS SHOULD BE MADE FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF AT LEAST A COUPLE OF INCHES OF SNOW WITH ROADS BECOMING HAZARDOUS. STAY TUNED TO LATER WEATHER FORECASTS. A SIGNIFICANT ARCTIC OUTBREAK IS EXPECTED FOLLOWING PASSAGE OF THE COLD FRONT THURSDAY. BITTERLY COLD AIR... PERHAPS THE COLDEST SINCE AT LEAST 2003... WILL PLUNGE INTO THE MIDSOUTH DURING THE DAY THURSDAY AND REMAIN OVER THE AREA INTO THE WEEKEND. LOW TEMPERATURES WILL DIP INTO THE SINGLE DIGITS ACROSS MOST OF THE AREA AND POSSIBLY APPROACH ZERO ACROSS SOME NORTHERN LOCATIONS. WIND CHILL READINGS BETWEEN MINUS 5 AND MINUS 10 DEGREES WILL BE COMMON. MIDSOUTHERNS SHOULD PLAN AHEAD FOR THE POTENTIAL SNOW LATER THIS WEEK AND THE EXTREME COLD TO OCCUR AFTERWARDS. PRECAUTIONS SHOULD BE TAKE TO KEEP WATER PIPES FROM BURSTING. LIVESTOCK AND PETS WILL NEED CARE FROM THE COLD. CAR BATTERIES SHOULD BE CHECKED TO ENSURE THEY WILL START IN THE EXTREME COLD. Tominator
I've heard on the news a few times this year it's due to El Nino. So far, for our area at least, it's pretty true to the forecasts. Our area is supposed to be colder than normal, and drier than normal..
