The_Kat
Well we went to Jenn's traffic court this evening and decided to see if the judge would cut us a break by pleading no contest.....hahaha, he didn't! Instead he congratulated Jenn on her good driving record and allowed her to have the charge differed so it wouldn't go on her record which cost 40$. Guess it's good it goes off her record, but 270$ for simply avoiding a crash thats not her fault it nuts. We could have pleaded not guilty, but with her student teaching schedule and my work schedule, a trial wasn't something we had time for. I hate municipal courts.....always sticklers! Oh well, thats life....whats money for, but to spend I guess.
TreeStandBowHunter
Haha, that's funny. My wife had traffic court this morning too. Once we got around the Japanese language barrier (which never happened, lol), "I think" they let her off with a warning. She rear ended a Japanese citizen the other month (little scratch) and she got a ticket for careless driving or something like that. But you know what's cool, while waiting in their little court room thing over here, they bring you green tea, lol. Anyway, they said something about our insurance going up and I am thinking to myself, I DON"T CARE because for one, we already pre-paid our Japanese car insurance for up until we leave in June, two, we leave in June so who cares, lol, three, everything that happens in Japan, stays in Japan, lol!!! Anyway Kat, sorry about your ticket:)

Adjam5
Most traffic courts are all about revenue generation, not so much about right and wrong. It stings Kyle...but it could be worse. One insurance raise could have been more than the fine assessed. Over and done with.
Bowtech_archer07
It coulda been a lot worse Kyle. Glad it's not going on her record. I'm headed to traffic court for on Thursday for an accident I was in that was my fault and I got a failure to yield ticket out of the deal. I hope I can get court supervision and keep it off my record.
wtnhunt
They want the money, seems that is all most traffic courts seems to be concerned with. Funny how it goes Kyle, got behind a sheriff's deputy here yesterday for about 10 miles, he crossed the double yellow lines too many times to count one time getting nearly his whole car over both lines and also had to correct once for an oncoming car. Wonder where the good old trooper was who cited me last year for getting my front tire over the line on the same stretch of road about the same time in the afternoon. Had been around 10 years without any tickets and the judge could have thrown mine out, he even made the smart aleck comment along the lines that those county backroads are narrow and I was just unlucky with timing. ruttinbuc
Don't even get me started. I got a speeding ticket one time and had to appear in court. On the back of the ticket there was a clause that said if I wanted to plead guilty I pay the price of the fine which I forget. Anyway I call the clerk and tell her I want to plead guilty and she says I can't. If the "court appearance required" check box is checked you need to be in court. So I go to court and since it was the holidays the hick town prosecutor says that the judge was in a good mood and if any one want to plead guilty we can all get home early. I go before this guy and he gives me a fine that was twice the amount of the price on the ticket plus costs. I admitted to speeding, but I argued the speed that I was clocked at. Needless to say I almost got hit for contempt of court for asking him where he gets off sticking it to me like that for admitting to the violation. I told him I was telling him how I felt about and if he would appreciate getting scammed like that. His answer was that t his is the way the system works. I told him his system has a lot to be desired and then asked to be excused...:bang::saber::poke: CRIME WITH A PEN Edited January 5, 2010 by ruttinbuc
RangerClay
It may seem like a lot of money now but I would bet the other infraction will carry less points on her license. If your insurance company get wind of a speeding ticket at her age, your insurance will go way up. Then you will be paying more in the end. NOW WATCH OUT! I fell for this. Your insurance company may call out of the blue to "Update their information". Yeah right! They may ask about the ticket, hoping that you will mention that it is a reduced speeding ticket. DON'T! Tell them it was a simple moving violation and change the subject.
The_Kat
It wasn't a speeding ticket and the charge wasn't going on her driving record. Careless driving in Oklahoma is a non-points violation and doesn't affect insurance anyways, therefore we would have been better just to plead guilty and pay the fine. That was my whole point on how we got screwed lol.....he added the removal clause for an extra 40$ bringing her cite to $270, when it would have just been $230 without the removal clause added in. In other words, he made his city an extra $30 bucks....thinking we would think he gave us a "good" deal. What really pissed me off was the trash walking up to the stand being charged for failure to pay due taxes to the state, no insurance, speeding 10-15 over, failure to yield to traffic signals, all had tickets that were less $ and he dropped them to 100$ or even through some of the insurance tickets out. One girl was stopped for no license, insurance, and speeding 10 over and he dropped her fine to 100$ ( was around 450 ) and dropped the no license, no insurance tickets because she got her license that day....mind you she was 22. Jenn's driving and criminal record is spotless. Either way though, it's done with. Just a good reminder to watch how you drive I reckon. GWSmith
I got a question... The ticket was for careless driving right....did you have the baby with you when you went to court?????(it could have set off the judge)
brad dryden
Alot of time the cop is NEVER wrong I would have paid it as long as it wouldn't go on my record but its cruddy how it all went down.
