MS bucks no. 2 & 3 are history!

It's been a while since I've posted. Needless to say I've been hunting. The members that have been here around for a while know I stay in the woods a lot when our late pre-rut starts until the post-rut period winds down.

The morning of Dec. 10th I went to hunt a spot at ground level I've hunted before. Basically it's close to where a fairly wide creek goes into a large creek that borders the western line of our property. The south side of the creek is a 5 year old cutover. The north side is big timber. I had only been there for 10 minutes when this 5.5 year old 9 point tried to cross the creek to head south to bed down for the day. He didn't make it. Took thes pics in the creek bottom where I shot him.

My last buck in my MS bag limit of 3 for the year was a suprise, to say the least. I had goals to put some younger hunters on nice bucks. 2 out of 3 are history but that's another story I'll post with another thread. I had been sending them to my 1st places of choice to hunt.

This past Saturday afternoon I was sitting one of my stands where my previous 3 hunts had resulted in seeing a button buck. Very disappointing to say the least. With my primary choices of stands covered by the young guys I decided to give this stand one last shot before I chose to move it before next year.

After climbing into the stand I glassed some magnolias and found one about forearm size had been torn up since my last sit there. About 4:05 a spike walks through. Better than the last 3 hunts already. At 4:55 I hear a chase coming at me from the south. The doe locks up at 25 yards downwind of me sensing something isn't right. A 2 year old 8 point stops 10 yards behind her with the spike that came by earlier off to his right. Then this 5.5 year old 8 point appears behind them. I knew from trail cam photos I had he was a wallhanger. No shot though...yet. He starts easing off to my right where I pick a spot for a shot. He appears but low brush has his vitals covered. Dang...still no shot. After a brief pause he eases on to my right some more, locks up and starts a stare down. I turned my .308 loose. Great mid 130's MS buck to finish my season on.

Needless to say this has been a great year for me with 3 5.5 year old bucks in the bag and a couple of younger hunters I've helped killing some nice bucks. Time to start that thread now.

Is that a decoy off on the right side of the 3rd pic down, or another buck watching you get your picture taken?? :)

Ya think the bucks are happy I'm limited out Steve? :clown:

That's one of our 3D targets. We have 3 set up to shoot off our back porch from an elevated position. Set at 20, 25, & 30.
