Young MS Hunters Score

My main goal for this season was to put this first younger hunter (Mike) in front of a good one that he could put on the wall. I've known this young man since he was 8. He's 22 now and had never killed a nice mature buck. I told Mike this past summer while we were offshore fishing that was my main goal for the season. It finally came together.

On the afternoon of Dec. 27th Mike asked me where I thought he should hunt. The wind was perfect for my stand where I had killed the 138" 8 point last year. This would be his 2nd sit there. The 1st sit results were about 6 does and a young buck seen. I had sat it once and passed a 120 class 8 point since his 1st hunt there. One of my best friend's was sending his son (Kyle) to one of his stands not too far from mine so they road in together on his electric cart.

I took a spot on the ground about a mile away. At 4:15 I hear a shot from their direction. A few minutes later I talk to my buddy and find out his son Kyle killed a nice 8 point. Great but I must admit I was sure hoping it was Mike on my stand. 15 minutes later I hear another shot from that general area. I tried to call him on the radio but no answer. Finally some 10 minutes later he calls with the news he shot a nice 8 point. The pause was him taking off to un over and check out his buck. Here's Mike & Kyle with their bucks from that afternoon. The 1st 2 pics is Mike with his 4.5 year old buck that was hunting my stand. The other is Kyle that was hunting his stand.

That afternoon my best friend's son (Trent) shows up to hunt. Trent's not a morning person so he slept in the following morning. I told my buddy he really needed to send Trent to a field we call Catfish. A couple of nice bucks had been seen in that field recently. OK...he signs him out for that afternoon there. About 4:30 we hear a shot from that direction. Sure enough Trent bags a 16" spread 8 point. Only thing is it's a different buck than the ones that had been seen there. Take how they come. :D

Heck of a weekend to say the least.

I have one more goal left to put one more young hunter friend of mine on a wall hanger. His name is Scott. I have a lead on the location of this buck (trail cam pic). I'll see Scott at our camp Thursday night. Hopefully he has a date with destiny too. 53_B_RT.JPG
