Tominator
Ow. As far as the sportsman thing, who knows the scenario. I'm guessing that deer didn't wait around for a follow up shot.
Prairiepredator
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! :jaw::jaw: You are right, somebody needs to go finish her off! That picture just makes my spine shiver, because I can't imagine what the deer is going through!
sskybnd
what i ment be the sportsman thing is after he seen that the arrow didnt kill it was to get the gamewarden involved to help kill it instead of it running around with an arrow in its head
92xj
crossbow?
camoman1
crossbow? I was thinking the same thing. I had seen the first photo before but was unsure of the angle, but looking at the other two pics it sure looks like a bolt to me. Not that it really matters if it came from a bow or x-bow. It was either a extremely poor shot or some kind of deflected arrow/bolt that somehow managed to get where it is. Very unfortunate to say the least. johnf
Looks like it's definately a crossbow bolt. Never know what happens when you shoot a deer with an Xbow. Mine is really loud and with a long shot a deer would have a lot of time to move. That's one of the reasons I switched to compound. One thing's for sure, she's taking the short bus to the corn pile. layin on the smackdown
I got that as an email the other day...My first thought was "how in the world...", but stranger things have happened. Definitely a cross bow bolt. Who knows the scenario, but i am willing to bet that injury is not a life threatening one. The brain of a deer is actually alot smaller than you would think, and by the placement of the shot, all that arrow/bolt got was flesh, bone and maybe some nerve damage. I just can't believe the penetration...a deer skull is pretty darn thick and hard, especially at the top around the brain. Just hate to see an animal have to deal with something like that. anyone know what state that pic was taken in?
buckee
That is very, very sad. Looks like somebody tried for a between the eyes shot, which is a big no-no with a bow or a cross-bow. That's just sad, all the way around. Don't be surprised if it makes it into your local paper, just to make all hunters look bad. :(
ruttinbuc
It is definitely a crossbow bolt. The distance from the small deer's nose to its ear is maybe 8 inches at the very most. No deflection would end up that straight in. Pretty sad and just an example of the ignorance out there.
DropTine49
There was a very similar post on here before about a petition to abolish bow hunting. The woman has a youtube video of the deer with an arrow through its head. Very sad, and almost always makes hunters look bad. But it also makes you question some hunters ethics, but you never know what really happens.
backwoods07
Ow. As far as the sportsman thing, who knows the scenario. I'm guessing that deer didn't wait around for a follow up shot. I can attest to this statement. Things happen sometimes, even to the most ethical hunters...
Diamond Archer 01
Wow, that is one tough deer. A person I know was bowhunting one time and saw a deer with an arrow in it just like that one.
muzzy1
Why would you take a shot with the deer facing you..the deer was looking right at the idiot when he shot.STUPID...Sorry but ethical hunters dont take low,low precentage shots like that. doubledrop
I received this e-mail a couple weeeks ago as well. Not sure what they were thinking on this shot but none the less there is your end result.
redkneck
I'm with Chris, I doubt she waited around for anyone to finish her. You guys sure that looks like a crossbow bolt? Looks like an arrow to me, maybe shooting an overdraw. No matter, sad, but things like that happen. If the hunter was trying to shoot the thing in the head then that is pretty sad. 92xj
Why would you take a shot with the deer facing you..the deer was looking right at the idiot when he shot.STUPID...Sorry but ethical hunters dont take low,low precentage shots like that. MY2CENTS...... You were there? So a deers head cant turn to the side and face you while you are shooting at it broadside? How can you judge what percentage shot the hunter was taking by the pictures? For all we know the bolt was lodged in a tree limb from a last season miss and the doe ran full speed into it.

slughunter
Looks like the deer either got its head in the way at the last second (jumped the string) or the hunter took a really poor shot by trying to take it in the head. Deffenetly a sad situation for the deer. -shane
