Elk Hunting

I believe it all is for archery and rifle OTC tags. Which unit are you going to hunt? It gets pretty crowded. Lots of elk. Lots of young bulls. Lots of access and hunters too. Most of it is 8500 to 10,000 feet high. I lived there until I moved here 3 years ago. Better deer hunting than anything else. Had some monsters wintering in town.

Unit 421 is not too rugged in most places but it's high. If they aren't in shape they'll be roadhunting mostly. If you want a tamer hunt you may want to look at the northwest part of the state. Units 3,4,5,11,211 aren't too high or rugged. Units 4 and5 hold the most elk in the earlier seasons and they slowly move west as the snows fall. Check them out too. Archery is draw only in 4 and 5 though.

421 is otc for elk in the 2nd and 3rd seasons and for archery. Statewide Colorado is draw for 1st season and 4th season now in all units. The Wife and I drove over Sunnyside in unit 421 today. A beautiful sunny day, game was scarce though, lots of tracks. I guess if we hadn't slept in then we might have seen more.
