New Year's Eve Day (Dec. 31,2009) was the last day of Wisconsin's fall turkey season. The WDNR extended the fall season this year so we took advantage of it.

My brother killed a nice Tom with his bow just before Christmas but I wasn't with him and don't have pictures. So New Year's Eve Morning He and I and a Buddy went out for the last horrah and got into a flock of at least 75 birds. Our buddy Tage took his at 11 rows (corn field) and I wing shot mine as the birds ERUPTED out of the corn. Both birds were last spring's polts and weighed around the 10-11 pound mark or so. GOOD EATING!!! It was fun.

So feeling lucky, I went bowhunting that afternoon and connected on a doe fawn from a ground blind at 8 yards. Does anyone know how much their bow makes in single degree weather with deer at 8 yards? Prior to hunting, I lubed up my axles and alcohol wiped my string guide. I have never drawn so slowly on a deer in my life. What a blast. So I hope you folks in the southern states who were blessed with a little snow got out there and did a little hunting this past couple weeks.

Congrats! But don't jakes usually have long feathers in the middle of the fan and short feathers the rest? I can easily see that they are jakes, but I shot a Merriams kind of like that this spring except it was heavier and had a hen head.

Dakota :)

Mine on the right was a young jake and Tage's on the left was a young hen. These birds (obviously not these 2 particular birds;)) will grow a lot between now and the spring season.

Very nice job! What did you llube up your axles with? Curious because I have a Hoyt with the Cams & 1/2 and in really cold weather, notice a little noise which I think comes more from the string guide...I'm guessing the alcohol maybe helped with that?

I used 2 drops of Rem Oil on the axles and the alcohol definitely did the trick with the cable guard.
