setting coil springtraps

got some 1.5 coilspring traps for coons, and was wondering do the make some type of tool to set them, i been testing one out on setting it , i can use my feet to set it put have to take my glove off to set the pan, right now there hanging hopefuly getting a little rusty, so i can get them into the wax, Another question, i got the nta trappers hand book and was wondering how many use a clog when trapping for coon.

I think you can buy a tool to set them with. My great uncle made his own tool to set his traps with when he got older and couldnt do it with his hands anymore. I have never used one so Im not sure how they work. Ive set 1.5s with just my hands. I put the trap on my knee, press the levers down, and while I hold the strong jaw down with one hand, I set the trap with the other. I usually use my feet on bigger traps to hold them down, but a 1.5 is managable for me with my hands. Its harder if you have bulky gloves on though.

We have just normally used our hands and feet, although it migh be a bit easier to step on the springs with your feet with a #3 or a size like that, because that is what we use for coyotes.

I really can not help you with your coon trapping question because I have never attemted to trap coon before, but I would like to try in Feb. or March. I am just going to use a live trap.
