Ethan Givan
I think you can buy a tool to set them with. My great uncle made his own tool to set his traps with when he got older and couldnt do it with his hands anymore. I have never used one so Im not sure how they work. Ive set 1.5s with just my hands. I put the trap on my knee, press the levers down, and while I hold the strong jaw down with one hand, I set the trap with the other. I usually use my feet on bigger traps to hold them down, but a 1.5 is managable for me with my hands. Its harder if you have bulky gloves on though. Prairiepredator
We have just normally used our hands and feet, although it migh be a bit easier to step on the springs with your feet with a #3 or a size like that, because that is what we use for coyotes. I really can not help you with your coon trapping question because I have never attemted to trap coon before, but I would like to try in Feb. or March. I am just going to use a live trap. This is a link to some good trap setters and this website has any sort of trapping stuff you will need. http://www.fntpost.com/Categories/Trapping/Traps/Trap+Setters/ Edited January 11, 2010 by Prairiepredator
huntinman802
i do the same as Ethan for traps all the way up to MB 750s, its easier and keeps your hands out of the snow or muck
Adjam5
I have always set my traps with my hands and feet. The ONLY trap I set with a tool is the 330 conibear. That bad boy will break your arm.
Strut10
Yep. Practice setting them on your knee with your hands. It's not hard. Setting them on the ground with your feet doesn't work so well in soft/muddy ground.
