TBow
I was cleaning out one of my kids bedrooms, now that they've all left the nest, and came across about 3 cardboard boxes full of old Bowhunter, Bow & Arrow and Archery World magazines from the early/mid 70s to the late 80s (I think), that I'd stored and forgot about over 20 years ago. I was just wondering if anyone here collected any old magazines about bowhunting that might be interested, or maybe missing an issue or two. The early 70s issues deal with mostly recurves or longbows as compounds were really in the infancy stage. I think one or two of the articles may even have been about field tests or reviews of some new fang dangled contraption that Mr. Allen patented. Some really good articles from some top names in the industry at the time like Jim Dougherty, Chuck Adams and the like. If anyone's interested, pm me and we can make some arrangements. Man I wish I had all the money I paid for all those magazines. I could likely aford a new bow....or two! Ah well, I guess that's what they call "hind sight"! TBow
I believe there is on all 3 men if memory serves me right. I'll take a look to see what there is and get back to you. TBow
TBow
Here's some of the artcles I found: 1. Bow & Arrow Jun 1975 - Howard Hill Remembered - "The Passing of a Legend" 2. Bow & Arrow Feb 1977 - "Howard Hill Lives" (About the man and those who have carried on the tradition of the famed Hill Longbow) 3. Bow & Arrow Feb 1978 - "I Remember Howard Hill" 4. Bow & Arrow Aug 1980 - "Bow Test - Howard Hill Big Five Longbow" 5. Bow & Arrow Jun 1983 - "Allen's Exclusive Story - How The Compound Was Invented" 6. Archery World Mar 1982 - "80 Years With Fred Bear" (A tribute to Bear on his 80th birthday) 7. Archery World Jan 1985 - "Howard Hill: Man With an Impossible Dream" 8. Bowhunter Apr 1982 - "Fred Bear Looks to The Future" (An interview with Fred Bear) 9. Bowhunter Jul 1982 - "Fred Bear's Most Memorable Hunt" 10.Bowhunter Mar 1990 - "Fred Bear - A Retrospective - Remembering Number One" I didn't find any articles specifically on Ben Pearson, but found a few bow reports on Pearson bows and articles written by Jim Dougherty who worked for Pearson. And while looking through all my old magazines, I was delighted to find a few articles that will help me with some projects I'm working on right now, like "DIY: Refinish Your Favorite Bow". I have a 70's vintage Bear Super Magnum 48 that is in need of some TLC, and this article just popped up at the right time. I also found a bow report on a Jennings bow I bought in the early 80s (and still have it), so it's kind'a neat to read it again. So even if I don't unload any of these magazines, I've rekindled some of my own nastalgic love of the sport through reading these articles again. Adjam5
Have any idea what you want for them? I am interested in all the mags you listed . Thanks for looking!
TBow
S&H is going to cost the most. If I mail them from Canada to the states it'll cost me over $20 cdn. If I go stateside and mail them from Ogdensburg via US Postal, I can likely get away with about $16 (bridge fare included crossing the St. Lawrence). How's $30 for everything sound, S&H included? I'm leaving for the Carribean for a weeks holidays right away, so if you want them still, it'll take me another week or so to get them packaged and into the mail. PM me with any particulars (like mailing address) if you like. TBow (Geoff)
