Chenango Dave
Still haven't seen the eagles fishing the river yet, but the hawks sure have been plentiful in the past couple days. And I think a black Rough Legged hawk - haven't seen very many this color. A different one. And one more duck shot at the river. Wish we'd get a sunny day sometime soon. Take care Dave

Tominator
Cool. That black one has me bamboozled. Looks like maybe a dark phase rough legged?
buckee
Great pics Dave. Is that a Dark morph Ferruginous Hawk??
Chenango Dave
Thanks guys - I'm not sure on the black ones - I was thinking a black phase rough legged. The two black hawks here are two different birds - at least they were taken seperate days and 5 or so miles apart.
ruttinbuc
Great photography once again, Dave! Those rough legged hawks are rare here. They have a hawk watch up at the reservoir and they might only have 1 or 2 sightings a year!

Pretty sure the 2 pictured are different birds. Look at the undersides of the wings, especially the tails. I could post the picture over at whatbird.com. There's a lot of really sharp bird people over at that site. I know you copyright all your pics Dave, so I won't do it unless you say it's OK. Some people, I won't mention names, could care less about bird ID. They are content to see or hear a bird and say, "huh, bird."

Thanks Dave Thanks Dave. I'm betting I'll have an answer for you very soon. The people over at whatbird are very good, and usually very quick to reply.
