I.K.C.
How long should I play my E-caller for 30 - 40 seconds? what is the best time to hunt morning, noon, or afternoon? Thanks for the help!
Ethan Givan
When we used to coyote hunt we called for about a minute and a half. My favorite time to hunt is in the mornings, and especially when its extremely cold. We had some luck in the afternoons but mornings seemed better. Muleyman
I would say morinings are better. When I call, I call for about 20-30 seconds then wait for bout 2-3mins. But I am using mouth calls and on all of the boxes for them that is what they say.
Outdoorzman
My best success has been mornings, just after dawn, though pre-twilight has also produced. I call now for a longer duration than the usual few seconds to a couple mins, and even though it all works, again, I have had more yotes respond to consistent steady calling that increases in anguish. I stop and trail off, yes, but I start again almost immediately and it seems to work well. If after 15 mins nothing comes in, I move. Only issues are with mouth calls the yote focuses on YOU, so if you try electronics the speaker can be moved. And alot of guys will run the tapes the same as I call...consistently for the duration of the tape or card. Of course, evrything will work, no matter how long you choose to call, as long as the whole set up has been thoughtfully planned out. Chances increase when you determine wind, common food sources, and don't forget hunter pressure. A great time of year for most of the well-known industry hunters is also October thru November in the northern US because that years pups have been driven out around that time and are hungry and ready to respond to calls.... Adjam5
From what I have read. Coyotes are hungry about 90% of their life and that is why they are so willing to come into calls. Hunting means using energy, so they would much rather scavenge or find a meal(squealing rabbit) than hunt for it. Be very aware of the wind and mix it up using hand blown calls as well as electronic calls. My yote success has been mostly at dawn and sunset and while on deer stand. I have yet to take a dog mid day. Most of the e callers have a calling cycle that it goes through before the calling stops. At least my FoxPro does. I let it go till it stops and glass like mad . Nothing like watching the pros do it. I got most if not all my yote tricks by watching Randy Anderson DVD's. Good Luck.
