Dawg
I'm in a wierd predicament here folks. Yesterday was by far the weirdest day I have had. Some of you may remember my thread from yesterday asking about a certain individual. That thread has been deleted per my request. Turns out the person I was asking about could be my half brother. Yea, weird. It's a long story so I won't bother typing the whole thing out. The guy found out that the man who he thought was his biological father, isn't. So the guy fronts his mother about it and she brings up the name of one of my dad's friends. She tells the dude that this friend could be his father. He calls this friend of my dads, they meet, he agrees to help to find out if he is the father. Some time goes by and for some reason this friend of my dads changes his mind. Stating that he had a family now and didn't want to risk hurting anyone by going through with it. Then he says "To be honest when we met, I thought you looked like a friend of mine named (and he gave my dad's name). The guy does some research, finds my dad and I in a news paper article when we won a fishing tourny. Searches my name, finds me and now here we are. There's a lot more to the story, I know it sounds kinda fishy with what I have typed, but trust me, I talked with the guy yesterday and he knows his stuff. I am going to do a DNA test with the guy so we can find out. Not sure how I'm going to break the news to my parents though. How would you? hammerforged
Dang - that is a tricky one Corey. I have no doubts that you will handle it the best way possible.
DocMort
I would wait until after I found out the results of the test before I told them anything. If it turns out it is true I would then talk to my dad first and the go from there.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Weird? Definitely! But...If the other guy does turn out to be your brother (I never liked that "half" stuff) it could be a wonderful blessing. Especially if he's a decent individual. What's the age comparison between you two?
92xj
Odd and weird, but it could have been a lot worse. I had some crazy situations running through my head. I agree about the whole wait to say a word about it till you are 100% sure. I know you left off a lot of the story but judging that someone is family based off looks is a far reach. My dad and Rick Flair look like identical twins but we have no kin folk between the familys. Anyhow, I wish you the best and hope things go the way you would want them. The_Kat
For your moms sake I hope he isn't....that could turn real ugly real quick. good luck and let us know if ya don't mind.
Dawg
I've thought about making 100% sure before I said anything to my dad but I also don't want to dump it all on him at one time. If I do that then I'm not sure what his reaction will be. If I talk to him about it now and let him know what's going on, I think it will be a little easier for him to cope with. The guy sounds like a good guy. He's married and has children. He's into hunting and fishing so that could be a great plus if this all turns out to be true! Only thing I would have against him is, he's an OU fan. :bang: What's the age comparison between you two? It's about 11 years.

My mom's a very understanding person. If this turns out to be true, then his conception would have taken place about 4 years before my mom and dad were married. I don't think she would be upset. Matter of fact, I believe she will prolly handle it better than my dad lol.

Best of luck with it bud on whichever way ya want it to turn out.
RangerClay
Let me tell you what happened to my wife's family. Her Uncle Butch was always a womanizer. Always cheating on Aunt Lolita and they divorced. Now 20+ years go by and one of the son's (Dale) meets this guy in a bar (Greg). Everyone jokes about how much they look alike. They become friends then after some time they actually find out that Greg is a love child of Uncle Butch. 90% of the family welcomed Greg and his family with open arms. We had a few stuck up aunts that got bent. Uncle Butch could care less about the love child and Aunt Lolita isn't surprised but she doesn't speak to him. However the brothers (Dale & Brad) have become friends with Greg and they all keep in touch. Now if this DNA test proves positive, is this possible half brother a love child because of a cheating dad? I could see how this could really put stress on the family. But if this guy was conceived in another marriage then this could be ok.
doubledrop
I think she will understand, its not like they were together, right? good luck with everything though.
buckee
Life is full of surprises sometimes. If it turns out to be true, you two can turn this into a positive, instead of a negative, with God's help.

I could see how this could really put stress on the family. But if this guy was conceived in another marriage then this could be ok. My father and mother could not have been married when this guy was conceived. He is 39 and my folks have been married for 35 years, so it would have happened around 4 years before my folks were married. Your post brings up another worry of mine. The question "How will the other family members treat him if the test comes back a match?" and "What will they think of me by bringing all of this to a head?" I will welcome him into the family with no problems at all, but my other brothers and sister, I'm not to sure about.
wtnhunt
Kind of weird story Corey. Hope if it turns out to be true that all goes well with you sharing the information with your family. Your post brings up another worry of mine. I will welcome him into the family with no problems at all, but my other brothers and sister, I'm not to sure about. Don't think anyone would fault you for being honest with them Corey. Some of your family may get upset at first, but would not be nearly as upset if there was any type of deceit. Would imagine they would probably be pretty understanding with the way the story played out. Would just be sure to tell your folks first. joeaveragehunter
If you are honest with everyone and come from the heart, you can't go wrong. Even if it takes some people a little time to come to terms with it, it will turn out the best in the end.
Dawg
Well I went over to my folks house for lunch today. Presented the info and guess what................THEY'VE KNOWN FOR 4 YEARS!! Talk about a weight off my shoulders! My dad's friend that was first thought to be the father, told my dad about it 4 years ago. My dad said he would do the DNA test because this guy needs to know. WOW!! Now I can breath a sigh of relief!! I'll keep yaw updated on the outcome. Not sure how soon they will have it done. My dad and this guy have to talk it over first, so we'll see. It is just a matter of him or the other guy type of thing. I watch too much NCIS at night!!!!!

It is just a matter of him or the other guy type of thing. Apparently so! haha. From what I hear, my dad was a tomcat when he was younger. They never knew the guys name though. His mother sent two letters to my dad's friend 4 years ago. One for him and one for my dad. He threw the letters away and told my dad about it. I guess the woman didn't mention the guys name in the letters.
92xj
Wait a second, wait a second. So she is saying that it could have been your dad or his best friend, that means that the two guys were.....yeah nevermind. Give pops a pat on the back for me. Well.............I don't want to touch that one. haha. Back in the day, my dad and his friend would borrow one anothers cars. They would go, as they call it, "out on the town" and well, do what just about every 20 to 21 year old guy does. Except they would tell the girls they met that they were each other. So it's possible that my dad told this woman his name was "Todd" (substituting names here) when actually his name is "John". See where I'm going here? The_Kat
I have a good friend of mine who will likely have this story unfold on him in a few years. I know of his son, and then 3 other potentials out there. All 3 look just like his son. All 3 girls claim he is the daddy.
