shaunandjulie
Hey, I had a question. I live in Illinois and I've never noticed bucks making new rubs and refreshing scrapes this late in the year. Is anyone else seeing this as well or have I just not came across any previously? Thanks
buckee
You don't see them making new rubs and refreshing scrapes this late in the year, because the rutting action is over. The bucks have no need to act territorial anymore and are buddy, buddy again.
Anchorpoint
I think the question is that he is seeing it, but has never seen it at this time of the year. shaunandjulie, FWIW, we had an out-of-the-ordinary season here in the South as well. The rut never came in full bore as in years past, sign was down and sightings in general were down. Thought it was just our little group but we confirmed it with local processors and taxidermists (SC along I-95 corridor).
buckee
sorry, I misunderstood. We had a late rut here this year too, but it's all over with now, and the bucks are all bachelor buddies again. .
shaunandjulie
Yea I know all of the sign should be gone but within the last week I've had a buck rubbing on three different trees around my food plot as well as cleaning out a scrape. Just thought it was awful weird to see this late in the season. One of the rubs is on a tree the size of my leg. Both are fresh because I had checked the area last week and now theres shaving below the tree from where he has rubbed on them again. strutstopper
In Virginia it happens often as there isnt a good buck:doe ratio.
