Diamond Archer 01
What is your favorite turkey call? I only have like one or two calls and was wondering what calls may be good for me to buy for the spring season.

Diamond Archer 01
Thats very cool that you make your own calls. How long does it take you to make one of them.

dbHunterNY
If I was looking to buy another slate call I'd be using one of Andy's too. However, my favorite call and one I use the most is a Team Primos Will Primos signature series diaphram mouth call. I can do everything with it, soft or quiet, while keeping my hands on my gun. camoman1
It would be hard for me to pick a favorite, but heres 3 that I wont go in the woods without. -Knight and Hale Glass Hammer -Primos Power Crystal -Primos Box Cutter box call I have others too. Its good to have a variety of calls. Slate, glass, aluminum 'slate' style friction calls. A box call or two and a few mouth calls. You never know what that Tom wants to hear. Ive had a bird hang up, but I pick up a different call, and here he comes..... BTW Andy, I went to your link and those are sweet looking calls. Next time Im looking for call your gonna hearing from me...
Diamond Archer 01
Thanks guys. I have another quick question. What types of calls do you guys use most, slate, box call, diaphragm, etc.
camoman1
They each have their place. I use box calls to locate birds, or when Im just sitting and calling hoping a bird will wander past, or when a bird is not close. Box calls tend to be on the loud side. Slate calls are my favorite for early mornings when the birds are just coming down from the roost, or when the bird is close. And I just always have a mouth call handy for when the bird is close and need both hands to shoot, but still may need to make a few calls. Strut10
I have so many "favorite" calls I couldn't name them all here. Most of them are collector pieces and will never see the woods. In the woods, I carry very few calls: Hally Caller Deluxe boxcall slate call of my own manufacture Hally Caller diaphragms (usually 2 or 3 varieties) That's it. colorado bob
My go to calls are both box calls. Quaker Boy---Grand Old Master & a Lynch "101-Fool-proof" They carry the call up thru the canyons where I hunt. Merriams like it & that's what matters.......CB

Bowtech_archer07
I have 2 primary calls that I use. One of them is the HS Strut Matrix 360 slate call. The other is the white lightning mouth call from this website: http://www.realityoutdoors.net/ They have worked great for me the last 3 years. Really when it comes down to a favorite call it is more about what call(s) you like the sound of and the birds you are hunting like the sound of. Practice a lot and sound perfect on several different calls then you can pick your favorite from that based on what works in the field. NiteRunner
H.S. Strut Alumi-Witch Slate Call - This call rarely fails me. H.S. Strut Mouth Calls - Easy to use and realistic tones. Spittlers Slate Call - I got this call from a friend on another forum, love it! Works best when the birds are close.
twowetdogz
Everybody has their favorite call and their favorite kinds of calls, but you need to remember that it's all about what's relevant to you. Myself, I prefer pot calls, and mouth calls, but carry a box call as well. I also know guys who can't use a mouth call, and other guys who use a box call because that's what they feel comfortable with. I've known guys who have had very expensive calls and still could not call very well, and other guys who had cheap calls, and were excellent callers. So, I guess what I'm saying is to remember to take everybody's suggestions on this one with a grain of salt. The suggestions on here should give you a good place to start looking, but make sure you are comfortable with the call(s) you end up using. Because if you're not comfortable with your calls, you'll probably never be as good of a caller as you want to be.
PotashRLS
I love the call I got from Andy last year. The sound is awesome. It has those sweet spots that just can't be beat!!

Rhino
I don't really have a favorite. It all boils down to which one gets them fired up the most on a particular hunt. My favorite type of call is a slate. I usually carry 3 (sometimes 4) with me. I also mix and match different strikers with different slates. Different strikers on the same slate produce different tones.

So for that reason I carry several calls and use the one the gobbler likes the sound of best.
Lumpy
Hook's Custom Calls are hottest calls on the market and their mouth calls are second to none, easy to blow and all turkey. Check us out www.hookscalls.com God Bless
Diamond Archer 01
Thanks guys for all the input about your favorite calls. I have a a box call and a few slate calls. I am not good at all at the mouth calls so I think I have to practice a little bit on them. Thanks again.
Ethan Givan
For mouth calls I like my Primos 2 reed Batwing cut, and my H.S. Strut 3 reed. For slates I have a couple but my favorite is a Primos Ol' Glory. I have only one box call and it was made by a guy that lives only a few minutes from me. Its made out of walnut and mulberry I believe. It sounds really good.
Outdoorzman
My favorite call is a hand-tuned box call given to me by friend, Tad Brown, but the one I always fall back on when it comes to hunting is my HS 'Black Magic' slate with a rosewood striker. I use mouth, box, & slates in a wide variety, and for different reasons like most, but man...that particular slate has consistently brought down some nice boss birds over the past 10 years or so... Case in point last spring: My son's first turkey; I used everything I had with no results until I broke that puppy out. Turkey gobbled from 350 yards and my son shot him at 18 steps within 5 mins... RangerClay
Right now my favorite call is a Primos Jackpot. It has a large sweet spot, easy to use, and I like the way it sounds (and the turkeys do too).
Dakota
Andy certainly makes great calls! I would have to say though that the one that seems to work the best for calling in turkeys would be my own mouth. Works spring and fall.
