It would be hard for me to pick a favorite, but heres 3 that I wont go in the woods without.

-Knight and Hale Glass Hammer

-Primos Power Crystal

-Primos Box Cutter box call

I have others too. Its good to have a variety of calls. Slate, glass, aluminum 'slate' style friction calls. A box call or two and a few mouth calls. You never know what that Tom wants to hear. Ive had a bird hang up, but I pick up a different call, and here he comes.....

BTW Andy, I went to your link and those are sweet looking calls. Next time Im looking for call your gonna hearing from me...

They each have their place.

I use box calls to locate birds, or when Im just sitting and calling hoping a bird will wander past, or when a bird is not close. Box calls tend to be on the loud side.

Slate calls are my favorite for early mornings when the birds are just coming down from the roost, or when the bird is close.

And I just always have a mouth call handy for when the bird is close and need both hands to shoot, but still may need to make a few calls.

I have 2 primary calls that I use. One of them is the HS Strut Matrix 360 slate call. The other is the white lightning mouth call from this website: http://www.realityoutdoors.net/

They have worked great for me the last 3 years. Really when it comes down to a favorite call it is more about what call(s) you like the sound of and the birds you are hunting like the sound of. Practice a lot and sound perfect on several different calls then you can pick your favorite from that based on what works in the field.

Everybody has their favorite call and their favorite kinds of calls, but you need to remember that it's all about what's relevant to you.

Myself, I prefer pot calls, and mouth calls, but carry a box call as well. I also know guys who can't use a mouth call, and other guys who use a box call because that's what they feel comfortable with. I've known guys who have had very expensive calls and still could not call very well, and other guys who had cheap calls, and were excellent callers.

So, I guess what I'm saying is to remember to take everybody's suggestions on this one with a grain of salt. The suggestions on here should give you a good place to start looking, but make sure you are comfortable with the call(s) you end up using. Because if you're not comfortable with your calls, you'll probably never be as good of a caller as you want to be.

I don't really have a favorite. It all boils down to which one gets them fired up the most on a particular hunt.

My favorite type of call is a slate. I usually carry 3 (sometimes 4) with me. I also mix and match different strikers with different slates. Different strikers on the same slate produce different tones.

kinda my feeling too.

We all have had a bird not say one work as we are calling.....then we switch calls and he is all fired up. So for that reason I carry several calls and use the one the gobbler likes the sound of best.

My favorite call is a hand-tuned box call given to me by friend, Tad Brown, but the one I always fall back on when it comes to hunting is my HS 'Black Magic' slate with a rosewood striker. I use mouth, box, & slates in a wide variety, and for different reasons like most, but man...that particular slate has consistently brought down some nice boss birds over the past 10 years or so... Case in point last spring: My son's first turkey; I used everything I had with no results until I broke that puppy out. Turkey gobbled from 350 yards and my son shot him at 18 steps within 5 mins...
