SC Goose Smackdown

We have about a 20 acre cut corn field in front of my house that belongs to my uncle, and it's been loaded up with geese everyday. The problem is my uncle was kinda worried about us hunting it because there are houses bordering two sides of it. I finally talked my uncle into letting us hunt it. He said he didn't mind unless somebody complained about it. We hunted it for the first time today, and by 8:00 we had a five man limit of birds. As we were cleaning up some woman was out on her front porch yelling all kinds of profanity at us. She decided to call the cops, and the game warden. The GW thought it was pretty hilarious that she had been standing on the front porch of her double wide yelling at us. He said that when she called she didn't say anything about hunters, she just said shots fired. Ok, when somebody dials 911 and says shots fired it's a pretty big deal. Four county cops pulled up in her driveway and figured out pretty quick what was going on. Everything was completely legal, but my uncle said we couldn't hunt the field anymore because of the big deal she made out of it. I'm gonna try to talk to him more about it, so hopefully we'll at least get to hunt it next year.

Good deal on the hunt. Bad deal on the dirt bag who called the cops to make it appear as it was a shooting massacre. I dont know why your uncle is so worried. He doesnt need to cater to nut job neighbors. It's his property and should be able to hunt it, if it's within the law.

I think it's because he knows everybody in the area, and is trying to stay in everyone's good graces. Still no reason for her to act the way she did. If we hunted it again there probably wouldn't be any complaints because now she knows she can't do jack about it.

Man thats a good hunt - too bad about the whack job lady...I had a lady who would bang pots and pans off her back deck when we would be trying to work birds in...She finally called the DNR and she ended up getting the ticket for interfering with our hunting.

Good work on the geese, and good luck getting out there again!

We were a solid 150 yards away from any houses. In SC there is no law on how far away you have to be from houses on private land outside of the city limits. She is just one of those ignorant people who thinks she has more rights than she does. Considering my parents own the field right next to her house she should consider herself lucky we don't organize a skeet shoot early one Saturday morning.
