The landowner and I are cutting out a bunch of Hemlocks. We need to get some sunlight to the ground in some spots. And the price of Hemlock is as high as its ever been.

I always shed hunt and take a look around in winter. But my plans really arent made until I know what crops the farmer is going to plant where.

I hunt primarily on private land and hopefully (fingers crossed) if everything works out my dad will be leasing some land adjacent to the property we currently hunt... 90 acres or so... its not a bunch but its enough to give the deer a sanctuary during the rifle season... we'll clear some timber and put some food plots in... i cant wait because the area ALL around is agriculture and the 90 or so acres is full of multiflora rose.. thick and nasty stuff... GREAT BIG BUCK BEDDING AREA MATERIAL and the genetics are in the area ... cant wait to embark on our QDM adventure

scouting a prepping for the NEXT season is something I am always doing.....

While I am out shed hunting I carry maps of my area around so I can mark rub lines, scrapes, trails and pick out possible trees for certain wind directions.....then plan on my entrance and exist to see if its a possible spot to hunt.

I also do alot of this...

Im doing right now is getting the deer through this winter in good shape

I agree that now is a great time to scout. I'm waiting for the swamp to dry out, got to get my truck in and out of the body shop before I can get back in there. I definitely need to work on having a better bowstand for high ground next year, the rain flat screwed me up this year, food plots sucked, and my lock-ons were way better for rifle hunting than bow.

I'm going out this weekend do do some scouting and pull a lock on stand. I just don't like leaving them out all year and trusting those straps. I'll cut the trails to it a little better and move it over 30 yards or so next year so it's in the sweet spot. Season just ended and I can't wait for next year.
