Home From the Dominican Republic

Well I just got home from Punta Cana in the Domincan Republic. When we left we had a little concern about the earthquake that took place in Haiti and the after shocks that also affected the western portion of the Dominican, but all was well. Punta Cana is at the eastern most end of the island about 240 miles from Port of Prince, and Punta Cana felt none of the trauma that hit Haiti.

The temps were mid 30s C (around 90 F) and the group I was with spent a lot of time on the beach. I however, headed for the dune buggy tours and the Zip-line adventure in the mountains. Saw a few wild ginnea hens that the guide said were hunted by the locals. He said there wasn't a lot of hunting on the island as there really wasn't a lot of game. He did mention that there were a few wild boar here and there, mostly on some of the outlying islands. I also managed to talk the bride into parasailing with me as well. The beach was nice, but I like getting out and doing things and getting to see the real country, not just the tourist resorts.

Ran into quite a few other Canadians there, and suprisingly, I was able to pick out quite a few of the moose hunters to swap stories with.

Anyhow, back home to the cold and snow, but this week's temps look like they'll be above freezing and maybe some rain.

It's always nice to get away for a while, but dang it feels good to be home..... cold, snow and all!
