we were hit friday by a bit of freezing rain, but farther south near the US border 45 miles away was worse, heard stories of power poles leaning from the wieght of the ice, friday night was a bit of snow with a foot drifts on some laces but I still managed to get 3 coyotes, sat night came with a BANG 50 mph winds and then the rain turned to snow and at 9 the power went out , we were out so got home got the flashlight and a few extra blankets and got ready for a cold night, got a call a t 5 am that my mother was called to work at the hospital and she was blocked in, still no power,I somehow managed to get her to work in 3 foot snow drifts in places, the next few hours were getting firewood in the house and seeting up a kerosene heater by the back door I also had to drive the wife to work at 630 and pick up a few of her co workers, by the time 8 am hit it seemed like a day allready and the house was down to 46 degrees, I got the fireplace going and got it up to 50 or so and cleaned the deck off of the 4 ft of snow to get some hot food cooked on the bbq, the power went back on, it stayed on till 6 last night and went out for a few more hours, furnace never quit all day catching up, we went for about 14 hours that night and 4 last, just heard now it is prob going off again soon, I heave heard for up to 2 days, they have a ton of poles busted in the big hills down south and theyre are about 8 towns that have not had power since friday, houses are below freezing, tractors not starting, the towns finally got huge generators for the halls so there is some warm place but all the ranchers miles from anywere, they can be in some very serios trouble, kind of ticks me off when quebec had the big ice storm it was all a emergence and army and everyone come in, been close to 4 days for some people and we hardly hear a thing on the radio and I checked the net and they said its under contoal, its not, cattle are hungry and thirsty, peopel are using propane and heater unsafe just to keep warm, been 2 fires on farms and the one they could not even get to, just say a prayer or 2 for the poor peopel near rockglen, scout lake and coronack and surrounding areas, goes for about 40 miles wide by close to 100 long ,they need all the help they can get, the goverment does not seem to care, Guess the guys in Quebec are more important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All I am is saying is do not take for granted what you have we forget all the little thing we have that when they are gone it seems like its the end of the world, when you have to go to the bathroom, you flick the light switch, you forget to take something out of the freezer you throw it in the microwave, you need hot water you just turn the tap on or throw the kettle on, Just a reminder to everyone to make sure you have a kit ready for emergency, food water flashlights, candles, plus when you go the the bathroom tonight just try it with the light off lol, [ really hard to read a big buck magazine sitting down with a flashlight in your mouth trying to read it lol!!] Please say a prayer for those cold folks just south of me, Just wish there was something i could do for them, they are all the guys I hunt on there land all year, great people, they should not have to go through this, ALso would like to thank the guys who have worked for 3-4 days strait in the blinding blizzard to get some of the power up, They need a huge pat on the back!!Hopefully I have power to check in tomorrow,

Ya it is bad. We were in The city on the weekend and we were gonna come home on sunday but we decided to come home that night before the storm got really bad. Thank God for the new truck because we were hittin huge snow drifts on the way home and we got home at around 2:30 last night. BUt good thing thatwe came home that night because on sunday the roads were close. People were sayin that the power is gonna shut off in about 2 hours but only for about 15 minutes. This is one of the worst storms that we have had. My dad said this is the most snow that we have had in one storm.

Man Bret ..I sure don't envy you. I remember getting bad ice storms like that back in Niagara Falls, Ont, when I was a kid. You couldn't even go for a walk in the woods, because it was like an ice-prison. If by chance you managed to break in, you'd be lucky to make it out alive.

I hope it warms up for you real soon.

We've had nothing but floods and high winds since mid November. I'm getting tired of it, but thank God it isn't freezing up like where you're at.

I hope it all works out well for the people down south...I never realized it was that bad. Fortunatey, we did not have to sit through the entire power outage because we were coming back from Regina like Carson said. But the highways were awful, and we could hardly see anything in front of us!!! It is wierd driving home at 2 am and and not being able to see any yard lights or not seing any lights on when driving through town! And I did hear about that fire northeast of us quite a ways...the family is left with nothing. I am not sure if I want to take my truck to school tommorow because it is not that reliable in weather like this...I will have to see how the roads are I guess. You are right Bret, we are very thankful for all the people we have working to get the power back up and all of the people clearing the streets and roads! Hope things get better soon!

Im not sure if you seen this but Carson posted this thread the other day, and I put some pics in there.
