Diamond Archer 01
What broadheads do you guys recommend for turkeys. This is my first year that I plan on going after turkeys with my bow. For deer this year I used magnus stingers. Do you think they will be good or should I swithch to another broadhead. I read on a website that you should use big cutting diameter expandables. Do you recommend the expandable or will the fixed blades do just fine?

Tom2008
Can't go wrong with a Rage! My bird went 30 yards after a 20 yard hit.
camoman1
I was wondering the same thing. Im planning on using my bow this year too. I use Spitfires for deer but am not sure they will open on a turkey. They open great on deer but not sure if feathers will do the same as hide does. I have some Thunderheads laying around that I was going to see how those fly with my set-up.
Ethan Givan
The problem with shooting turkeys with normal broadheads that you normally use for deer is that they pass through the turkey. When it passes through the turkey, the bird can fly off and be very difficult to find. Unless you take out one or both wings or the spine, good chance its leaving your sight. Thats why I would recommend the Gobbler Guillotine. You either hit and kill the bird or you miss. No tracking or the turkey flying away and never being found. Just my thoughts. Diamond Archer 01
Thanks guys. I was just looking at the steel force talons and they caught my attention. They are designed to not pass through the bird and eat away at the vitals. What are your opinions about them and have you ever used them or heard good things about them? They even make a special spitfire with a blunter tip for turkeys.

Diamond Archer 01
Do you guys think if I just use a muzzy 3 blade or a magnus stinger they will be fine. Or should I definitely use a mechanical broadhead or one specifically designed for turkeys. Because I still have some muzzys and magnus stingers laying in my house and I was wondering if they will be alright to use.

Yeah they will kill a turkey just fine, no problem. However, the turkey might fly 80 yards before it expires. You might get lucky, and hit it just right and the bird never leave your sight but I wouldnt chance it. I have shot turkeys with regular broadheads. It has worked for me and the turkey didnt go 3 feet. Then I have shot them, the turkey takes off and I dont find it. Im not gonna do it again. I highly suggest a broadhead that will prevent your arrow from passing through. I dont want you too lose a bird like I have.

RangerClay
I killed my first turkey with some cheap $9 Eastman broadheads that I got from Walmart. They flew like field tips so I used them. I doesn't matter what broadhead you choose as long as they work well for you. Get yourself practiced to shoot quarters at 20 yards and you will do fine. I will be using Epek XC-3's this spring. Edited February 2, 2010 by RangerClay

Tecumseh
I don't use my bow much during turkey season,But I set it up with grim reaper mechanical broadheads.
ToddCountyKiller
GG So how do the Gobbler Gulotines fly? And what are it's effective ranges? I shoot a whisker buscuit on a Mathews SQ2. I am hoping it won't hit anything?.?. How much will these things run me?
Diamond Archer 01
I was reading about them and they say you shouldn't shoot them past 20 yards.

Diamond Archer 01
I will most likely be using magnus stingers. I used them for deer this year and they flew great. Hit exactly where my fieldpoints hit.

Slash
Good thread, I think most of you are right, the broadhead isn't really going to matter as long as the arrow goes where you want it to.
