PAbowhunter4life
Well, the results from the Winchester High Velocity #5 3 1/2" shells with the Star Dot out of my 835 are in. But, I am now left with a decision. From 25 yards I have to aim an inch left to get my pattern centered with the High Velocities. First shot holding dead on put like 20 BB's in the head, but the pattern was extremely dense, only it was to th right. So I aimed just a hair left and the results are great. At 40 yards I can hold dead on and it's fine. At 40 yards there are 21 killing BB's. When using Winchester 3" #6's the results at 25 yards are basically the same as with the High Velocity 5's, only I can hold dead on with the 6's. At 40 yards with the 6's I can get 25 BB's in the killing area, as opposed to the 21 with the High Velocity 5's. Now the dilema. Do I use the #6's since I can hold dead on at any range and not have to worry about remembering to aim left at crunch time. Or do I take the added oomph and roll with the 5's? I am leaning towards the 5's, but since I'll only be shooting 40 yards, the 6's don't seem like a bad choice. Someone help me lol!!
Nut
Re: I Should Just Stick With My Bow, Opinions Needed.. What are you using to sight with? Is it just the vented rib and bead? If that is the case then get fibre optics and adjut the sight to use the #5s. Or you can put a scope on and do the same. IMHO it is not good to adjust while aiming. IT leads to bad habits. So if you can not do either of them then use the #6s
PAbowhunter4life
Re: I Should Just Stick With My Bow, Opinions Need I am using the Tru-Glo sights that came with the 835. It has the single green front dot and the dual rear red dots. They are not adjustable though. As for the bad habits, I know exactly what ya mean. I am thinking of going towards the 6's now since they will pack plenty of punch out to 40 yards. Thanks for the response!

dogdoc
Re: I Should Just Stick With My Bow, Opinions Needed.. I would either put a red dot scope on or stick with the #6 shot. I wouldn't want to have to adjust my aim in the heat of the moment! todd

JimT
Re: I Should Just Stick With My Bow, Opinions Needed.. I would do what Todd said. Also, I would use the shotgun in the spring. We have a fall archery season here, thats when I use the bow. Dead is dead.
Rhino
Re: I Should Just Stick With My Bow, Opinions Needed.. Whatever you need to do to aim dead on at the moment of truth. If it means the #6's or putting another sight on of any kind do it rather than trying to compensate when you have a gobbler in your sights. You need to be totally confident in where your zero is. Guest curt
Re: I Should Just Stick With My Bow, Opinions Needed.. I shoot the same gun and the same choke and I found Federal #5's to pattern much better than the Winchesters. But I like winchesters better in my model 500. I also use a scope on my 835 but if you have the money you might want to try the Federals.
