Outdoorzman
Ok...I've taken several turkeys with my bow but to be honest, they're harder to hit than my decoy target!! LOL! Darned things move alot more for sure! So...that said, I know the 3 best placements for arrows are up the vent if strutting, wing-joint if walking/standing, and upper thigh area for quicker bleed out & recovery. This will probably generate different responses but I'd be interested in knowing where YOU guys & gals try to shoot a bird, and without destroying too much breast meat at the same time... And also, how far are you comfortable shooting at a turkey, (with bow), without becoming unethical?
Diamond Archer 01
I have never shot a turkey with my bow, but this year I am going to try to. I want to keep all my shots within twenty yards. I feel real comfortable shooting at twenty yards. I am going to try to shoot a turkey right where the wing meets the body or if it is facing away from me right in the back. I have done some research and have learned that those are good shots. Its a small target I know, but either you hit it and kill the turkey or you completely miss. Taking out the wings where they join the body is my pick. pointing_dogs_rule
You are correct in that they are hard to hit. My theory: in anyone of those three places that you mentioned if they give you the shot. I am not picky. good luck to all the dog

Dakota
I'm just planning on using Magnus Bullheads so I'll be aiming for the head. As far as distance...no farther than 30. Dakota

The Kid
if any of you guys ever watched doubl bull outdoors the maker of the double blind before primos baught them out, they always had a saying "Hit um high the die, hit um low they go" they said the reasoning behind this was because the turkeys vitals lie right along their back,, they've takin enough birds with a bow so im going to take their advice. the wing shot is the most common though i think
Diamond Archer 01
I have also heard the saying hit em high watch em die, hit em low watch em go.
dbHunterNY
square through the drumsticks is a good shot i think. if it was close enough and i had the right head it'd be a head shot though. that'd be the most ethical and quickest way to put the bird down.
