Outdoorzman
For turkeys, I've only had two shotguns in the past 10 years, both Mossbergs; The first was a model 500 and my current is an 835 ultimag. I use the HS Undertaker choke tube and the combo is great when coupled with 3" #5's but I'm thinking about a new gun, and not a Mossberg this time. What would you suggest? And what other choke tubes are you guys using out there? (I still like the Undertaker the best and will use it with the new gun so if anybody has an undertaker in a particular gun they feel is a better combo, I'd like to hear your thoughts). Diamond Archer 01
I use a 20 gauge remington 870 express with a tru-glo exta full choke tube. I think that is the choke I am using. I have killed two turkeys so far both past 30 yards with the winchester 3 inch shells. That is the load that worked best for me and my gun. I hope this helps you a little bit. PotashRLS
This is my wish list turkey thumper.............. My brother has this Mossberg 835 Turkey Tactical. Seems the birds don't stand a chance, provided you don't suffer from turkey fever. Both Federal and Winchester standard velocity 3 1/2" 2 1/4oz. #6s out to 50 yards = :death:. It is a sweet, sweet gun, but is not for those who are recoil shy :crutch:

Rhino
You'll get a lot of different answers to that question. JMHO but choosing a new turkey gun is a personal thing and depends on your price range. When making your decision I'd suggest you check what is available in your price range and then read reviews and/or ask about particular guns here. I'll also add that I prefer to carry a lighter weight turkey gun with a 24" barrel. Makes it easier to hold at the ready position while waiting for the shot opportunity and the shorter barrel allows for more freedom of movement if you need to swing with a moving bird. redkneck
I got an 835 ultimag. I would not recommend it, I'm looking for another gun soon. Just my personal experience, I know others that love thiers.
Outdoorzman
Ok....I've been hearing lately about the new Hevishot 13...I have been offline and out of commission until recently, and now I see it on posts in here. What's the scoop on it. I used to shoot Hevishot but in my ultimag and with my choke it was not the best combination so I switched to Winchester Supremes and have even had great patterns with Federal Flight-Control...which so far I love. Strut10
Ok....I've been hearing lately about the new Hevishot 13...I have been offline and out of commission until recently, and now I see it on posts in here. What's the scoop on it. I have not used Hevi 13. From what I can see........ and probably the reason that the shells seem to pattern so well........ is that it is a horrendously slow load compared to other turkey shotshells. The Hevi 13 loads (which is slightly denser at 13g/cc than other shots) run a bit heavier payload than the rest and at a modest 1090 fps. I'm not sure I'm sold on a sub-sonic turkey load. Comparatively, Winchester's Supreme Elites (at 12.5g/cc density) run at 1225 fps. (I actually have done considerable testing with these. My test velocities were actually in the 1290-1295 fps range). I can say that the Winchester Elites will throw an unbelievable pattern and at some freaky distances!!!
Ethan Givan
My gun of choice is a Remington 870 12 ga. I use Winchester Supreme turkey loads and they shoot great. I am comfortable taking shots out to 45 yards with my set up.

maytom
Guns are a personal choice all the way. Some like Pumps, some like Semi-Autos. Choice of shells and chokes are another personal choice as well. What works for some doesn't always work for others. I wouldn't worry too much about shell speed either. Most "claim" that slower shells pattern better than high speed. It's all in the choke tube, and the size of the constriction anyway!! I personally use a Winchester 1300 12 gauge. It's a light gun that I can carry most of the morning without complaining of its weight. But, if I had to do it all over again, a Semi-Auto would be my next choice. Just for the much faster second shot capability "if" needed. Have fun in your quest!!!
