David_218
Don't know about you guy's Health Insurance monthly premium, but yesterday my insurance company raised my by $40! This is sure going to cut into my Hunting, Shooting, and will prevent me from buying any new rifles or equipment.
popgun
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! Mine also went up $50. pr month. I knew this would happen, when the Medicare System recognized obesity as a disease. It is now treatable under Government sponsored programs so private insurance companies have to cover it as well. I would much rather have better coverage for dental and eye care. But then....I'm not FAT. .....popgun

The Government does look at obesity as a disease, which gives the Insurance Co's an excuse to raise their premiums. I found out that the Insurance Co's look at a region's health as a whole; so if you live in an area where the general health of the population is poor (like where I live) the Insurance Co.'s raises EVERYONE'S premium in that area. It's called "Administrative Protocol". BTW: I am not fat either and, I don't smoke or drink.
wtnhunt
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! Health insurance premiums have been going up just like anything else. Can remember my first job back in the 80's, the first time when my health insurance costs went up. I may be wrong, but ever since the Clintons and the talk of socialized medicine, seems that health insurance premiums have really gone through the roof. Insurance was not an issue like it is today. Now when one got in for a check-up, the first thing they ask is about Insurance.
wtnhunt
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! I have a kind of a theory. Health insurance companies became really concerned when the Clintons were trying to push for socialized health care in this country. That started the initial extreme increases in premiums. I saw it inhte early 90's when my premiums for just me and my wifenearly doubled. Those health insurance companies sought to raise premiums in fear of being put out of business by the government. You know the concept of make the money while they can. The socialized health care never happened and they got away with raising premiums, and seeing they could exploit the public so easily they have just continued to do so. Sure health care costs have gone up for various reasons like the lawsuits that happen and higher pharmaceutical costs which is a entirely different topic, but I think health insurance companies are coming out pretty good despite the raises in their operating costs and I dont think the burden they put off on their subscribers is entirely justifiable. It is really sad, how insurance works and that there are not tighter regulations. My wife has insurance available to her through a group plan at her work which I bought the same plan as an indiviual for myself and my 2 daughters for about half the cost of what it would have cost for us to be on her plan through her payroll deduction at her work. Can anyone explain how a group plan could cost twice as much for the exact same coverage through the exact some company? I may be wrong, but my thoughts are that there are too many people between the consumer and the insurance company in many cases are padding their pockets heavily on our money. Health care regulations in my opinion need a major overhaul in this country.
David_218
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! I think your correct about the Clintons, wtnhunt. I am just wondering if something else is at play though, like maybe the "New World Order" is allowing this so the human population can be reduced. I know it sounds crazy but what isn't in this world today.
Ohiobucks
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! Just got word today that our companies insurance provider will be raising the premiums by 28%!!!! 28% from one year to the next!!!! I think they are starting to shop around, which usually means bad news for all that need it. More than likely end up with an inferior plan for the same $$$. What a scam........ So when I add $250.97 + $45 = $295.97 per month!!! I don't Smoke or use tobacco, nor do I Drink, and I watch my diet very closely. IT IS A VERY LARGE SCAM!!!! How do the "Hammer-Heads" in Government expect the economy to pick up when we have this huge monkey on our backs called Health Insurance Premiums???? wtnhunt
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! That does stink. Our premium forme and my 2 daughters currently is like $266 a month, and the wife is insured through her work at like $140 a month. It has gone way beyond being out of hand. Sadly we can gripe and complain all we want, and I hate to say it, but we are at their mercy and they know it, until the government steps in and regains control over the situation the trend will only continue. I personally think that capping the lawsuits is one small step in the right direction, but there is a long long ways to go and we all know the greedy insurance companies and pharmaceuticals have their hands in the plenty of the right govt employees pockets. That would make for some very ugly interaction.

Guest Andrea
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! At least you guys HAVE insurance. We are self-employed and cannot afford it at all. For my family of four it would cost us $630.00 a month. I'm sorry, but that's a house payment. Small business owners are really unfortunate. Too expensive to do it on your own and don't qualify for gov't help either. So what do you do? And Lord forbid if you have "pre-existing conditions". It is very costly for self-employed to carry Health Insurance. YES! that $630/month is a Mortage payment! Twenty years ago no one would have ever dreamed that Health Insurance would be the Number #1 family, business, or personal monthly expense, and would equal a house payment! wtnhunt
Re: Health Insurance Premium UP! Huntingirl, dont know if blue cross blue shield has a similar system still in Florida, but I pay $266 for the plan on myself and my daughters, to add my wife it was only like $70 more. That would be under $350 for a family of four, still too high in my opinion. Have you checked rates online? As far as the government invoking such price controls, that sounds great to me. A 46 million dollar salary that is crazy. No doubt that is a huge part of the problem, just wonder how many politicians would support passing such though.
