HoosierDaddy28
Has anyone had any luck with GSP's and ducks. I have heard that they can do waterfowl and upland birds, but wanted to get the opionons of some experts.
Missed160
We had a great pheasant short hair growing up. He was pretty good sized, though he did retrieve ducks, he absolutly was not a waterfowl dog.. He was very busy in a boat, and had a lot of trouble with cold water after the first couple weeks of the season..
Diamond Archer 01
Not sure. I always though the german short hairs were more of like a pheasant dog.
layin on the smackdown
They are a breed that has a little too much energy for waterfowling...Granted, they are great upland dogs, and can be taught to do just about any type of hunting, they are not built both mind and body for waterfowling...It can actually get dangerous with shorthairs in cold water, they don't have the coat or insulation needed to keep them warm after a cold retrieve...JMO.... get a lab :cool2:

dogdoc
They can make a decent duck retriever the biggest problem is they have a hard time handling the real cold water later in the duck season.
