Cliff notes at bottom if the read is too long.

So, while living in North Carolina during the 08 deer season, I had a man in his 80's ask me if I had any deer meat that he could have. This was 3 weeks before season started and I was all out, so I could not supply him with any. After talking for a while he said what he was planning to do with it. He processed the deer meat and fed the hungry in the county with it. With that being said, I was on a mission to help him anyway I could. I took 7 does that year bow hunting and gutted, skinned, and hauled to his house. He told me not to worry about the grunt work, he would do it, but I insisted on doing to for him. At the end of the season I was at his farm helping him finish up the processing and was looking around his barn. He had this cow skull that was freshly killed. I picked it up and was looking at it thinking, dang thats cool. He said it was the meanest animal he had ever seen and had no other choice but to shave the ends of the horns because he feared for his life around this thing. He also said that this was the one and only that he took down using a 9mm to the skull instead of his normal 22. During conversation he said he was going to hang it outside his barn. I thought that would be awesome. Fast forward a couple of weeks. I walk outside and sitting on the porch is the skull and a note. The note read, you fed 30-45 families for a month and he wanted to give me the skull for my kindness. I went to his home and said that I would clean it up and we would hang it on his barn together. He insisted that I take it and walked inside and shut the door in my face, haha. So I took it home and started working on it. I finally have it cleaned pretty well and am getting it shipped from NC out here to Wa next week. I want to hang this thing on my wall inside but am not sure the best method for this. Anybody have any experience and the best way to do it? I want to avoid using a big nail if at all possible. Thanks for the help in advance.

Cliff notes-

Old man gave me a skull and I want to hang it on my wall, how to do it the best way to where it will not fall besides a huge nail.

Take some good picture hanging wire or strong wire and attach it to each side of the skull, wrapped around the part behind each eye socket, (not the eye sockets). Let the wire go up to about the spinal opening in the back of the skull and then twist the wire there to make a small loop (large enough to slip over a screw head).

Then set a deck screw solidly into the wall (or a large picture hanger hook, with a good secure nail or screw to a stud) and hang the skull.

So you need to put a hanger on your new Longhorn Skull--What to use and how do you do it??You can use several differant type hangers--The top picture is simply a wire hanger fashioned out of a coat hanger--the next one pictured in the 2nd and 3rd pictures is screwed into the skull and can be purchased at most any hardware store. You may need to drill some pilot holes in the skull smaller than your screws to get the screws started. For more information email Kent Krutsinger @ [email protected]
