I heard his story about a year ago, but it wasn't until i bought his book Lone Survivor for my dad that i took the time to do some research and find out all i could about Marcus. For those of you who don't know, i'll give you a quick explanation of what i'm talking about:

Marcus Luttrell is a retired Navy Seal. In the summer of 2005 i believe it was, Luttrell and the rest of his 4 man Seal team went out on a mission to kill a high status Taliban operative who was believed to have masterminded recent attacks and roadside bombs. While trekking through the mountains, they were ambushed and surrounded by 100-150 Taliban soldiers. Of the four men, Marcus was the only one to survive....

A rescue helicopter was sent with 16 American soldiers (8 of which were Seals) to rescue Marcus. However an RPG hit the chopper before it could perform its duty and killed everyone inside. These events made this day in 2005 the largest loss of life in Navy Seal history.

Marcus, after being blown out of his cover by an RPG and sustaining gunshot wounds and shrapnel to the legs, crawled 7 miles before being taken prisoner and tortured by the Taliban. He was later turned over to an Afghan tribe because, if i can remember right, an ages-old tribal law required the tribe to take in any man who asked them for help and these people were to defend that man with their lives. That being said, Marcus was nursed back to health and defended by these people until a helicopter was sent in to extract him.

After returning home to the states, Marcus was given a puppy from an organization that gives dogs to veterans in order to help them with their recovery. He named the dog Dasy, each letter in her name is an initial of one of the four Seals in his team (D=Danny A=Axe S=Southern Boy(Marcus) and Y=Yankee)

One night, a group of punks drove up to his mother's ranch, where Marcus was living, and shot and killed Dasy while she was laying down by the gate. Marcus jumped in his truck and followed the no-ball pussies through 3 counties going no slower than 110 mph. Eventually the police caught up to them and Texas Rangers arrested the men in the car. Even when they were belly to the ground and handcuffed, the men continued to threaten Marcus saying "First it was your dog, you'll be next" and other death threats. Marcus simply turned to the officer and said, "You let these boys know i could have killed them 600 different ways by now if i had wanted to".

Marcus now speaks publicly at events around the country on his experiences.

Check out Youtube for videos of Marcus doing interviews with people like Glenn Beck, Katie Couric, and Matt Lauer. You can also listen to the conversation that Marcus had with the dispatch center while chasing down the pansies who killed his dog (although i dont think the full version is on youtube). Just go out there and search for Marcus Luttrell online and you'll find out what an unbelievable story this man has.

Also, check out Lutrell's speech at the 2008 NRA convention. You'll see that he's a man who definately knows whats right and i think most of you will agree with everything he says. If anyone else has stuff to add please do, i just wanted to share his story with as many people as i could

I've got great respect and admiration for Marcus. Marcus has said a few times it was a mistake when he voted to let those people go in the beginning, had he not, things may have turned out differently for his team. But then he'd have to live with that too. He's sacrificed a lot for our country and a real hero who deserves admiration. His show is pretty good too.

Ya know I was looking at the topic title for a few days and it rang a small bell. Now sitting down after dinner popping on Outdoor channel. Guess whats on...Berettas Wild N Raw with Marcus Lutrell! BINGO! That is where I know that name.

Yes, I have heard him talk on the show before about his Seal history, but he did not get into specifics. I have great respect for ALL vets and up til this post. I had no idea about his history or heroics. An American hero.

Thanks for sharing that.

Gonna take a look at buying his book.

I should also add that in one of Marcus's interviews he says that while crawling those seven miles through the mountains, the only thing that got him through it was the feeling that he was obligated to get home alive and tell the world this story to honor the sacrifice his friends made. Nothing more heroic than that...
