Orion_70
How many of you leave your stands in the woods all year? I'll leave my ladder stands out as the ratchet is easily replaceable, but I loosen them after season. My lock ons and climbing sticks/ladders I pull. I just don't like those stands left in the woods and trusting the straps to hold. Plus those pesky squirrels will chew the seats and straps too. I know other guys that leave them in the woods all year, I guess I'm just more concerned with safety.
muzzy1
Ya i leave all my ladder and lock ons out all year,i do take the padded seats off.You just need to check everthing very well before the season starts!!
wtnhunt
I'll leave my ladder stands out as the ratchet is easily replaceable, but I loosen them after season. My ladder stands are all homemade steel stands, they are all for the most part somewhat permanent. I replace the wooden seats on them as needed and also replace the rope as needed. Occasionally I will move one, but they stay out year round. My lock ons and climbing sticks/ladders I pull. I just don't like those stands left in the woods and trusting the straps to hold. Plus those pesky squirrels will chew the seats and straps too. I know other guys that leave them in the woods all year, I guess I'm just more concerned with safety. My seat on my summit got chewed up a bit this fall. I hunted it maybe a half dozen times with the bow, and brought it home the weekend after season closed. Don't like to leave my climbing sticks or hangon stand out and pull them nad my other climber after season closes every year.
Grady269
I leave me ladder stands in place just pull the seats off. 2 of my 3 ladders are doubles and a major operation to move them. I take everything else home to the barn.
Leo
U.V. light significantly weakens nylon ratchett straps over time. If you leave the stand up, plan on replacing the strap before every season.
Diamond Archer 01
Where I hunt the guy who owns the land keeps all his stands out all year, which is like 17 of them. They r still in good shape too.
layin on the smackdown
I take down all my hang ons every year...I only leave a couple ladder stands out year round, mainly because they are such a pain to move.
joeaveragehunter
The only reason I yank all of mine is the tree grows around the chain and spikes and then I cant move them ever. Too much money to lose and I am always changing placement for new food plots and the neighbors logging.

Straight Shooter
None of mine stay in the woods year round, it's too dangerous for the exact statements made above.
Adjam5
A good tip if you leave stands out all year is to take some of that spray foam and fill in all the hollows that are visible. Those could get rain and/or snow into them. Rust and rot to the inside where they are not painted or powder coated is a big enemy to them. I have only 2 chain on stands that I leave out all the time and 3 ladder stands that I loosen the ratchet strap on after the season. I also put a steel cable around them with a lock as to not ease in the theft of the stand either by loosening it for the thief.
BearClaw
I leave my ladder stand out and my mini-ladder that I use with my Gorilla Kong stand. I haven't taken my hang-ons down yet because we have too much snow to get to them!!
hunterbobb
Ladders are pretty much all I use. I leave them out but I take all the straps off. :gun2:
redkneck
I leave them all out year round. Loosen the straps at the end of season.
toddyboman
ladders stand stay...just loosen the ratchet straps. Hang on and climbing sticks come down and get stored in the basement
Rhino
I leave all my ladders out but I loosen all of them to allow for tree growth. I pull all my hang-on stands but I loosen the sticks and leave them on the tree if I know I'm going to hang a stand in that same tree next year. If I know I'm not going to hang a stand there next year everything gets pulled.
backwoods07
We usually leave everything up, even if we tell ourselves we are gonna be good and at least take the seats in. I'm sure we'll loosen the straps a little in the Spring sometime. The only stands we'll take down are the ones we are moving.
dbHunterNY
I take everything down that I can. I've got a couple that are wooden permanent stands that I leave of course, along with the screw-in steps. I really don't like a stand that stays out all year, the weather is just too hard on it. They start to squeak, creek, and crack sometimes.
Buckhunter76
I never leave my stands out all year, but I mainly use climbers, there more portable, and easier for me.
dogdoc
I used to take all my stands down but now that I've gotten older they stay up. I just replace the ratched strap yearly.
GWSmith
Private land I may leave them up for the season but thats it. The ones I left on public land did not last overnight before they were stolen.:bang:
brudaman340
I just put a 2 man out the begining of the season and im not gonna take it down. I also have a really heavy hang on that is called the bark o lounger it weighs 35 pounds and i never take that down. Still have the same straps on it from 3 or 4 years ago. I think next year its definately time to do a little maintenance on it so the tree dont grow into it or fall out of the tree.
