LifeNRA
After three years of my daughter begging me to quit. Today is day one! The PA department of health has a program called "QUIT NOW". So I called them about 2 weeks ago to see what they offer. I was surprised to learn that they gave me four weeks of the patches to help you quit smoking. They will also be calling me throughout the process. This will be the third time I tried to quit. The last time I did quit for one year. Hopefully, this will be for good! ;)

ruttinbuc
It has been so long since I quit I forget how many years its been. It has been 12 years actually and I remember just taking the bull by the horns and throwing him to the ground! I smoked two packs+ a day for over thirty years and quit cold turkey. It took a coughing, hacking wake up thinking I was going to spit out a lung. I took a just opened pack of ''boro's," tossed them in the trash and never looked back. Yes, I was one miserable son of a for awhile, but it is the best thing other than getting sober I ever did. It happened because I really wanted to quit and the wake up scare was the trigger that pushed the want. It is tough for sure, but the benefits far outweigh the habit. You really have to put mind over matter and do it. You have to want to, really want to... Good luck!
wtnhunt
As much as those things cost these days, don't see how anyone can afford them. Good luck John, just think about all the saved money you will be able to put toward hunting gear. Sure your daughter and the rest of your family will be thankful you give them up too. Shaun_300
Good luck John, it sure is hard! If you can get your hands on the Nicorette inhaler do it! They work really good with the patches. Gives you that feeling of smoking when you inhale them. I quit a few weeks back but recently started again, stupid STUPID me!!!! It's not the cravings making me want to start, it's just the enjoyment of doing it. Smoked for almost 10 years, just a hard habit to kick. Gonna give it another try soon, maybe after ice fishing season.
LifeNRA
Thanks all! I really appreciate it! Oh, BTW, I did a little math. I averaged the cost of my smokes over the last 27 years. I spent close to $35,000!!! This alone makes me sick!!! :jaw: :gun1::smoke: It's not the cravings making me want to start, it's just the enjoyment of doing it. Yeah, tell me about it! :hammer1: Edited February 8, 2010 by LifeNRA
