My moms side is cherokee/german. I've only followed my genes back to the civil war. Moms fam fought for the rebels. Dads side only goes back to WWI. But I have no proof! lol Someone did some digging on my Grandmothers' families and both go back to England. Thurston was one and Wakefield the other. The other Grandfather came over from Germany.Sooooo. Mutt here too. Actually I always say. I am Native American. I was born here in America! Yellowhammer
I love that kind of stuff. I have researched both sides of the family. Most of my family are from England, Ireland, Scotland and Native American.

There's probably some real intriguing Irish ancestry to be dug up. Did they come to Canada during the Irish potato famine? Dakota
GWSmith
I remember my Grandmother kicking my Butt a few times for throwing plums at her chickens...does that count? My sister did something awhile back, barking up the tree...LOL, but I have no clue how far she got with it all.

colorado bob
My sister-in-law traced my Dad's side a while back. I know I had a relative who was with the Westmoreland Dragoons (PA)----fought in the Battle of Maumee (OH) in the War of 1812---died of his wounds & is buried at the battlefield. I had 3 uncles who fought at Gettysburg----one died of his wounds there & is buried no a stone's throw from where Lincoln gave the address. Several uncles fought in WWII-----one fought with Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. My wife's Dad went on Utah Beach on D-Day.
Jeramie
Oh yeah! I have our family history back many, many years. I am mainly German with some American Indian mixed in (about 75% - 25%). My family is still pretty prominate in Germany. The spelling of our last name changed when two brothers moved to the USA. Err go, if your last name is spelled the same you're related in some manner. We too have royalty, stars, artist, etc... Really cool family history inculding a service man that took a bullet for a President! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Coffelt
Dakota
:jaw: Wow! That's incredible, Jeramie! How is he related to you? Dakota
Tominator
Not really. I know I'm 2nd generation Polish on my dad's side. Dziadek or Dzsa Dzsa (pronounced Ja Ja) was born and raised in Poland. He came to America right around WWI time. The story is (don't know if it's true or not) if you volunteered and fought for America, you would get your citizenship. So he joined up and fought in WWI. He brought my grandmother back and my aunt Sophie was born in 1920 just after they got processed through Ellis Island. My uncle did some research on the manifests at Ellis Island and he found when my grandparents landed and left. Pretty cool. As for my mom's side, all I know is that we are German. Mom's maiden name was Gensert, and my grandmother's maiden name was Helbig, so I'm pretty much 50/50 Polish/German. And I have the *** to prove it. wtnhunt
A little, have not found quite as much as I would like. On my fathers side, history goes back to Belgium. My great grandfather came here from Belgium and ended up in West Virginia, family was pretty big in the mining industry. Some pretty cool stories, some I am not sure how accurate they are. Jeramie
:jaw: Wow! That's incredible, Jeramie! How is he related to you? Dakota It's pretty basic. Two brother's moved to the USA from Germany, California to be exact. They owned vinyards. Eventually they split off. If you have the same spelling as my last name youre related. Leslie wasnt in my direct line but he was pretty closely related to my Great Grand Father.
