robinhood2010
This will be my first time ever looking for sheds. I live in southern Indiana. The nearest place for me to start looking would be Camp Attabury public side or Yellowwood State Forest could you folks share some of your wisdom as to when they should be dropping for this area? Where should I start? :bummed: Thanks,ROBINHOOD 2010
Stone Cold
First thing is get you some very comfy and waterproof knee high boots! My hot spots where I find most of my sheds are bedding areas. You also want to look at creek, fence, river, or any other crossings. Stageing areas are another good spot to look. Feeding and water holes are other spots. Here is the biggest thing you need to do and that is walk till you can not walk no more and you will find some bone! Good luck and can not wait to see your first antler! You will never forget it. Here is mine when I first started and found in 1998!
robinhood2010
Thanks for the tips. I'll let you know how thing turn out. We have about 13" of snow as of Feb. huntrman04
i live up towards the lafayette area the earliest i've ever found a shed is Jan.28th but it seems to differ year to year..best advice i have is just go every chance you get bc its hard to time when the majority of the bucks are shedding on your property so just get out there and be prepared to do some serious walking..i'm going out this afternoon i'll let ya'll know if i stumble upon any! Good Luck to You!
deershed
With the deep snow you've got you'll find the deer like to stick to the trails already cut through the snow.I'm guessing you got your snow before most buck started dropping. Find some thick nasty cover a cedar or pine thicket or a good food source and look for those trails cut in the snow the deer are using.Follow the trails to see where they're going and coming from. You'll probably find sheds right in the trails. Think ill give that spot a another week or so. Also found a skull of one the died last year after he shed his horns, kinda strange.

Mr_Dynamite
As of Feb 9+10 two big buck sightings I heard of had horns. As of Feb 20 nothing was to be seen but antlerless deer, and one big buck - sporting no antlers. I am pretty sure he was the same one we saw on Feb 9. Mr_Dynamite
Friend of mine found a nice 4 pt in North Western IN while driving down the road. Base was sticking up out of the snow, nothing else showing. His first one, and he has been going nuts trying to find one. 10 in G2, nice long beam

Mr_Dynamite
We did a 3 hr walk looking in the area where he found that 4 pt and found NOTHING. Only thing we found was a thick 1.5 yr old buck that got hit by a train. 2 pt on one side, big lumpy spike on the other. Saw many deer, none with racks, and walked up on a huge rackless buck who had been watching me. He was in a brushy bedding area with many does. They all ran off but he stayed hidden, and let me come to within 20 feet - before I saw him - and when I stopped to get a picture of him he got up and ran off. Would have made a nice picture with how huge and close he was. Wish he could tell me where his antlers are! The guys with me also found a rub so fresh that the bark from the tree was on top of the snow! We will get out and find something yet. robinhood2010
Found my first shed ever on Monday. Left side of a nice 8 pt. Looked a good while for the other and no luck. I might scout again this weekend to see what luck can bring. It is cool how you see so much sign of where the deer travel this time of year. Some people claim that deer change routes ,but the area i hunt they seem to stay the same.
dturpen
Right on robin, as long as u got a good food source they usually won't roam to far. All my sheds have been found within 100 yards from cornfields.
