hutchies
We are going to Phoenix during spring break with the kids. We are staying with her cousin who is setting up her travel trailer for us. However her cousin has to work Monday and Tuesday so we are on our own for those 2 days. Anybody got any ideas on what to do or where to go while we are there.
m gardner
I live in Mesa which is an eastern extension of Phoenix. Cabelas is on the west end of the city in Glendale and is fun to visit. Their are two shooting ranges Ben Avery and Rio Salado. Several archery ranges one at Ben Avery and one at Usery Mountain( the best one) and Papagos Park. A drive to Tortilla Flats is nice too (rent a motorcycle if you ride). Get some Prickly Pear ice cream or a meal and some refreshment at the restaurant there. Tombstone down near Tuscon is good too. If you have a pistol and a permit to carry, it may be wise to do so. 92xj
Never been, but I vote to do number 1 and 2 on this list..... http://attractions.uptake.com/arizona/phoenix/family/713611640.html
colorado bob
With kids, I'd vote for the zoo. Plus you can probably catch a spring training game. Lots of hiking trails on Camelback.
hutchies
We will actually be in Florence, AZ for 5 days and then the other 3 in Phoenix, AZ
m gardner
Florence is a prison town. Not too much there but the prison. The abandoned 96 Ranch is fun to look around. There is an Indian ruin in Coolidge near Florence. http://www.nps.gov/cagr/historyculture/index.htm You can spend a half day there. Northwest of Phoenix towards Wikiup and Bagdad there is a Joshua Tree forest and with all the rain we've had there should be wildflowers everywhere this spring too. The_Kat
Get ready for tons of traffic that is VERY fast paced. I hated Phoenix and could care less if I ever go back. Tucson was much nicer. It will be worth your time to drive all the way to the Grand Canyon and check out Flagstaff too. It is breath taking! Shaun_300
Never been but my grandparents DROVE there from HERE! They weren't right in Phoenix, but they saw the Grand Canyon. That'd be on the top of my list.

RTPROFamily
I have a friend who lives there and she says the crime rate is very high. Lock your doors for sure and watch out for the homeless on every corner or illegal aliens. Both are very plentiful there. She said they pass out orange vests for the homeless to wear so your don't hit them. The saguaro cactus are a site in themselves. Enjoy your trip and be safe! WHISKEYSWAMP
You most definintely should visit Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon... The GC will take your breath away, at least it did mine. Also, Tombstone is a pretty cool place to visit as well.

A tip for the GC if you go.....take a lunch. Everything they have to eat there is marked up like 400%. A double cheesburger meal at McDonalds was $12.00 when I went in 06.:jaw:
