oneshot
Have you used the Black Hills factory loaded Barnes VG bullets? What results did you have with the 36 grain bullet, were they accurate and to what range? Did they go thru the coyote? Same questions but with the 55 grain bullet? What other animals have you used them for? (please put the animal, the grain bullet used and the effect of the bullet). Thanks for your feed back. Prairiepredator
I have never used them before but they look like they would do some serious damage. Not sure if you have seen these videos before but check them out:
Phredator
It would be interesting to hear about the 36 grain bullet and different rifles. My Tikka shoots lights out with 55 grain JHP but does not shoot the Hornady 40 grain Vmax worth a hoot. Too bad, I wanted to use that bullet. MichiganHunter
I have used them on chucks. I get a very tight .5" group at 100yds and they rip stuff apart....I'm shooting the 36grain. I'm shooting a rem mdl 700 tactical in .

Come on, you're talking about a 36 grain bullet. Damage? Highly explosive.
sureshot
they are a coyote hunters dream bullet!!!!!!!!!!!I have shot over 350 coyotes the past couple years with them, I love that they shoot with great accuracy becouse theya re the same size as the 50 grain [filled with copper instead of lead so lighter]seeing theya re only 36 grain they make the .223 the same speed as a 22-250, mine are shooting inbetween 3805 and 3810 fps In my norenko they are shooting a solid 1/2 inch group and out to 300yards only drop 4 inches, only downfall is the penetration, running away coyotes take 2 shots one to turn them and the second in the chest, chest shots at any range hardly ever exit and gut shots like any bullet do bun not nearly as much damage as normal bullets, out past 300 yards they do not quit have enough penetration to go through a shoulder so I do not recomend farther than 300 yard shots on coyotes with them, I do lose a few more than normal coyotes with these bullets, but the speed and less droppage and the hardly no sewing up of hides makes up for it all!! I have taled toa few guys who tried them in swifts and 22-250 they were not happy, to fast and alot of buildup in the barrel, I wonder if at 4500 or more fps they are not startign to melt a bit in the barrel, for the 222 or 223 theya re the perfect bul;let in my eye!! Thanks sureshot. On closer shots, say 50 yards to about 150 yards are they exiting the coyote on say a good heart or shoulder area shot??? Do ya have any pics of exit point shots of coyotes??? Have you used the 55 gr. mpg's at all???? If so, what were your thoughts on those??? Thanks again.
sureshot
to 50 or 100 they hardly ever exit, seems like in colder like -40 weather they will sometimes, barnes say no way but I know they do not perform as well in super cold but still great bullets, I do not have any pics but I do not think I have had one that was not sewable with these bullets, never used the 55 gr, so cannot say anything, good luck

The reason I'm asking is I do nuisance control and sometimes there are houses close by so you can see my concern on the pass thru. There are times when a shotgun isn't quite enough and I need the precision of a rifle. I also can not use personal loads due to liability issues so I just got a box of Black Hills 36 gr. V.G's. They say these will not ricochette so they should be much safer than the Hornady V-Max I have been using.
