This happend to me.......

So, yesterday morning, my wife, three kids and I load up in my truck to go to Lowe’s to get stuff for the new house. We are driving along a state route when we come across a man lying on his back just off the road! I didn’t see him fall, or if he got hit by a vehicle! We pull off the road next to him, I dial 911 and hand the phone to my wife to get paramedics there ASAP. My kids are freaking out!!!

I run up to the guy, yelling to see if he is responsive. He is just laying there with his eyes closed and his hat on the ground next to him. He talks to me in a normal voice and says, “I am not dead, I just need a ride home.” I thought he was delusional and didn’t know what happened. He tries to move and I tell him to lay still, the medics will be here very soon. Another guy stops and runs over to where we are. We both start talking to him, asking if he knows where he is or what his name is. He said he is trying to get home and nobody would give him a ride, so he decided to lie down to get someone to stop. By this time, traffic is starting to stop in both directions, and the sirens are getting close. We tell him he needs to get back from the edge of the road. He stands up by himself, just fine. We hear a story about how his family hates him, he has no money and he just needs a ride home. His hometown was about 40 miles away, in the opposite direction that he was heading. A state highway patrolman shows up and takes control of the situation.

Apparently, this guy was looking for a ride, so he laid down to get someone to stop. Can you believe that?!? My kids were crying cause the “dead guy” along the road! My wife was very comforting to them, telling them the medics would be here soon to take care of him. I tell the guy after I see there is nothing physically wrong with him that my kids were in the truck scared to death! He says he was sorry and didn’t mean to scare anyone.

The other guy that stopped said he saw him about 30 minutes earlier at a McDonalds, picking up change from under the drive through window.

Unbelievable.

Re: This happend to me.......

Im a passive man most of the time, but that is uncalled for....I think I may of given him a reason to take a ride in an ambulance...........ugggg......sorry your kids got scared, I had a guy run out in front of me once to get a ride.......not the sharpest crayon in the box....needless to say, he was still walking "far" off the road after our meeting in the woods....I had my kids with me at that event.......some people are just not right, and right or wrong, they want attention....may not be good attention, but its still attention....kudos for stopping, but man, sure aggravates a person doing the "right" thing for some people..............you'll see him again, Im almost sure of it...lol............at least you taught your kids right to help people, its just a shame it turned out that way.........I used to stop and help everyone along side the road, but its a touch and go situation with the kids with me anymore...too many "set up" situations................al

Re: This happend to me.......

The guys lucky someone didn't clip him by accident, pulling off a stunt like that.

We live in a mild climate here on the island, compared to the rest of Canada (in the winter). We get all kinds of street people spending the winter in our communities, up and down the island. Some are dangerous, some are just sad cases.

We recently have this problem here in our city, where a small gang (3-4 guys) have been stopping cars, by hitchhiking (one guy hitches, while the others hide). When someone stops to give him a ride, the rest jump out and beat the crap out of the driver. This has been happening in the rural sections of our community, just outside of town. crazy.gifcrazy.gif
