preacherman
With the new little one on the way, my wife is wanting a video camera. It has been forever since I have even looked at these things. Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to get and what to stay away from. Thanks Scott
RTPROFamily
Scott, I would recommend anything by Sony. We have had many video cameras over the last 18 years and Sony is the best. We have a Canon HD professional camera that we are not happy with. We have an old consumer Hi-8 Sony that has never failed us, been dropped from a treestand and still works great! All of my daughters growing up years were filmed with it and they turned out great! We also have a professional studio Sony camera that is far better than our Canon XH-A1! Sony has many new models to choose from check out their website and then go to BHphotovideo.com and check prices and sometimes Best Buy has great deals on them too. Good Luck and Congrats! wtnhunt
Scott, I would recommend anything by Sony. +1. Been really happy with our little sony mini dv camera. So many options in cameras nowadays, don't know if I would get a hard drive model or stay with the digital mini dv tapes, but when if ever we upgrade it will be another sony. ruttinbuc
I always been partial to Canon when it comes to consumer grade cameras. Sony is a better at the high end for its low light capability. The Canon Vixia Flash memory line cameras are super nice as is the Panasonic CMOS flash memory cameras. Sony has some very nice Flash Cameras also. Most of these cameras shoot stills as well. Tape will eventually be a thing of the past. It comes down to what you can afford and what you are going to do with it. I am looking to to try and keep up with the technology and right now the memory card AVCHD cameras are making big gains. Panasonic cameras are being used at the Olympics. You tube has a lot of video and information for most everything out there. Just use the search feature to check out anything you might be interested in. www.cnet.com has some good reviews. bhphotovideo has a lot of good demos on youtube, as well. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sony+camcorders+flash+memory&search_type=&aq=f# Here is a clip of a Panasonic camera HDC TM-300. All of the add ons you see at the end of the clip have nothing to do with the video output. Edited February 25, 2010 by ruttinbuc
