unioncountyslayer
Hey everyone, let me start out by saying, this isn't a bash on Michael thread. He just said something on the latest episode of BC that kind of struck a nerve with me, and was curious if anyone else caught it, or had any feelings on it. Nick was hunting in British Columbia and they were talking about a plant called a skunk cabbage that the Bears fed on. Michael said, "That sounds like something poor folks have to eat. I don't want to eat that". I know we have all said things that we regret, I certainly have. But with the luxury of film editing I felt like that should have been left out, especially if Michael truly knew his "audience" (i.e. hard working, blue collar Americans, and many struggling to make ends meat in our current economy). Maybe I'm overreacting. I'm a pretty laid back guy that takes what most people say with a grain of salt and don't get worked up over too much. Like I said, it just struck a nerve. I don't think he meant any harm by it, I just think it should have been left off. Thoughts?
Ravin R10 man
You probably are taking his comment out of context...if it smelled like a skunk..I wouldnt want to eat it either..Im thinking he was thinking thatta way...
unioncountyslayer
Well, I wouldn't say out of context, it was a pretty straight forward comment.
redkneck
Sounds like he could have said something better, but I really couldn't say without seeing it.
MichiganHunter
EHH....I dont think he ment it to be a bash on anyone I just think he didn't intend it to come out the way it did...no biggie I think
camoman1
I didnt see it, but it doesnt bother me at all. Seems like he was making a funny, not putting anybody down. Anybody paying for cable tv to watch his show cant be too poor, tv would be the first thing I would give up to feed my family. Just my opinion. Guest TennesseeTurkey
I watched the comment a few times over and He was making the statement that only someone desparate would have to get skunk cabbage, he also ran his words together he said "that sounds like something poor folks ud have to eat, that dont sound good to me"
ruttinbuc
That is part of his makeup. He says a lot of things that some might find inappropriate. Even the best comedians run out of lines and lose their sense of timing.
Diamond Archer 01
I don't think he meant it to be bad.
Muleyman
I don't think it is a big deal. We all make mistakes.
RangerClay
I saw the episode. I must admit that I raised an eyebrow when I heard the comment but I figured that he must of meant something else.
Hunt or be Hunted
but I really couldn't say without seeing it. Same here I'm gonna have to look it up.
Swamphunter
Sounds like he could have said something better, but I really couldn't say without seeing it. I agree also... could have chose his words better, but don't think he was bashing poor people... just a poor choice of words for sure. Michael has surprised me a bit lately I must say... stevebeilgard
i don't believe michael had meanness in mind when he spoke that. i'm thinking he was trying to be funny. i've smelt skunk cabbage, and it's appropriatly named. Prairiepredator
I wouldn't make a big deal over it. We all say some foolish things now and then that we regret. Just because he is on TV doesn't mean he isn't allowed to make some mistakes now and then.

If it were live tv I could see your point but its not.... Making mistakes as a person yeah he'll do as will everyone, but making the mistake and then having it edited into the show is another.... thats why I dont think it was a mistake, people are just taking this the wrong way.... 92xj
I wonder what everyone thinks Mr. Waddells definition of "poor" is?
The_Kat
If your offended by that remark then you need to go to Wal-Mart and by some thicker skin. He was obviously saying it was a nasty plant. Everyone takes things so dang literal these days and wants to point fingers. I bet Michael Waddell has even said a cuss word or two in his day........LETS HANG HIM!
TreeStandBowHunter
LOL, see this is why I could never be a celebrity or someone famous. Everything you said would be blown out of proportion and offend someone. This is who Michael is and this is how he talks all the time and anyone who watches him enough knows that. I think when someone moves on or changes who they do business with, people have the tendancy to look harder into what they say. I highly doubt he meant anything by it but that's just my opinion. wtnhunt
Haven't seen it, so don't know. Guess there are lots of things people say that can be taken out of context or construed by someone as offensive. Michael has made remarks about teeth or the tooth fairy and folks from a certain state too, I always thought that was just his humor and really don't think he meant any of those comments as a slam on anyone and likewise he probably did not mean this as a slam on anyone either. joeaveragehunter
If there is one place where a guy shouldn't get his every word dissected, its on a hunting show. Those guys aren't in my top five shows, but they seem like decent folks and I don't think they would ever purposely tear down anybody, rich or poor. Newarcher
I watched it last night and I just think Michael was trying to be folksie like he usually is. Most stuff I find hilarious. I just wish they would get rid of the green coloring on everything and quit spending so much time on each episode explaining their philosophy of the bone collector. I like Roadtrips because it features Michael much more whereas it seems that the show is more about Tbone and Nick Mundt. Not that I don't like them but I like Michael better. He's on his own now without the constant oversight of Bill Jordan and his editing teams.....so I think that he will make some rookie mistakes. I don't know if Nick might be the best marketing mind in the world. I wouldn't personally have put it in because it is unnecessary and didn't add anything. But it's out there. DottyHuntress02
From what I've read (or skimmed).. and I didn't see that show, either.. I'm just thinking he may have tried to be funny... I know I've said some things that I thought would be funny.. that didn't come out the way I meant it to. And it's so true that others can take things the wrong way because of the different ways that we say the same thing, our dialect (accent), and where we're from. He's human just like the rest of us.
