TreeStandBowHunter
We have had little "shakers" every now and then here on the island of Okinawa but dude this one...this one woke up Okinawa, lol. It just happened about 1/2 ago at about 5:33am. It was a little different I must say, lol. All of a sudden we were woken up to a loud roar and shaking so then I was like "GET OUTSIDE", lol. I think others had the same idea, lol. It was an experience that's for sure. Now they have a tsunami watch for us but other than that, life is grand here in Okinawa, lol. Information about the quake is right here and the little "X" that you see, which is the epic center, is right where we are at in Central Okinawa (keep in mind Okinawa is only 67 miles long and 15 miles wide at its widest point): http://www.jma.go.jp/en/quake/ Edited February 26, 2010 by TreeStandBowHunter
ruttinbuc
Stay outside. I hope that all there is. Stay safe man!
Rhino
Glad you're OK Mike, I was just reading a news alert about it. They were calling it a 7.3 off Japan. Stay clear of the coast. They've issued a tsunamis warning there for Okinawa.

joeaveragehunter
I always wondered what an earthquake would feel like, although I don't think I want to find out.
Newarcher
We once had one 100 miles away that was about a 4.9 or 4.0....I gotta tell you had it lasted more than 3 or 4 seconds I would have FREAKED. Gave me a real sense of what mother nature could do. Hope everyone is okay there. New

TreeStandBowHunter
This is cool, we are on the news, lol. We as in Okinawa that is. I thought that we were unheard of out here, lol. Yay, we made the news, lol.http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/02/26/japan.okinawa.earthquake/index.html?hpt=T2
TreeStandBowHunter
So it ended up being recorded as a 7.0 earthquake. This was definitely an eye opener for us here. Like I said earlier, we have had little shakers here but nothing like this, this was a whole lot different. It sounded like a freight train outside and our whole house not only shook, but swayed as well. Everything is still standing and no tsunamis ever hit us. I think Chile just had a quake too... Rhino
I think Chile just had a quake too... Yep...Chile had an 8.8 this morning. Tsunami warnings issued for Hawaii expecting the 1st of the waves to hit there around 11:20. Supposedly this earthquake ranks as the 7th strongest on record. You probably need to stay clear of the coast again Mike. If a bad one hits Hawaii it will sure continue toward you later on. According to a CNN news release a 130' wave hit the Juan Fernández Islands off Chile causing serious damage. buckee
I'm glad to hear it was 13 miles deep, and not closer to the surface. I'm also thankful that you are posting about this Mike, because that means you're OK We get a few rumbles on the island here from time to time also. They say we are overdue for a big one, so I guess only time will tell.
