I can't stand this!!

Today Breylen got his first set of shots since he's two months old now and he has NOT stopped screaming since we got him home. The crying is non-stop, top of the lungs, red in the face, can hardly breathe type of crying. We gave him .4ml of Tylenol as recommended by the doctor, but it doesn't seem to be helping and I also tried giving him a warm bath to soothe him and try to make his little legs feel better (they're both swollen) but that didn't help, either. This has already made both Andy and me cry and it's so hard to watch him scream with tears running down his face and there's nothing we can do to help him. Any suggestions? :helpsmilie:

Alternate tylenol with baby motrin. Cash had a rough time with his first shots too. He'll be ok in a few more hours. If he starts getting a fever ya might take him in as it could be a reaction to the medicine. Are your parents around? It might be a good idea to have them help ya out and give you two a break for a few hours. Sorry the lil guy is hurting...we were just there last week with Cash's ears.

Bless your hearts, I remember when our son was a baby.. it is definitely hard to see our babies suffer and not be able to help them. Although he didn't have a reaction to any shots, Matt had colic (for just a couple of days, I think), then occasional night terrors.. What helped him was putting in a video tape (we didn't have dvd's then) of The Muppet's Family Christmas (when the muppets and others spent Christmas at Fozzie's mom's farm house).. I don't know why, but it soothed him. Take care, glad your little one is feeling better, though.

those shots are the devil.....Hated when my kids had to get them... We are almost done but my son still has a few more to get yet. Of course that is due to the fact that my wife stretched them out as far as we could so he didn't get to many at one time.

But it is just as rough on the parents as it the kids IMO!

Glad to hear he is doing better!

Why are his legs swollen? I hope he's OK.

Oh, I probably should have mentioned that's where they did the shots. Whoops. They did two in one leg, and one in the the other. (I think two in the left, one in the right?) Both of them were swollen around the injection site, but they look better this morning. He finally fell asleep last night and slept really hard for quite a few hours and was a little fussier than normal when he woke up, but he eventually went back to sleep after I cuddled him for a while. He woke up this morning around 7:00AM, seemed normal --- smiling, cooing, kicking his legs, and he made me a big poopy diaper. :clown: I think he'll do much better today. I've got the Tylenol ready just in case.

LOL! That is really funny! I don't have any Muppet's videos, but maybe I should invest in some for next time he gets his shots at four months! :p

I don't know if this'll help you but my wife always gives our little one's a dose of tylenol before we go so it's ready to kick in by the time they get the shot and she plans the appt. as early as possible in case she has to go back to the doc office for a bad reaction. She's an LPN so knowing the docs doesn't hurt either. She then alternates with motrin and gives a bath earlier than usual too. You're doing great with the baby and it's all a part of nature that you're dealing with. Keep your chin up. Every little bit helps when dealing with this. By the way, I've said forever that a fan pointed away from everyone is a great way to create white noise for babies. It's a way to soothe them without having to constantly hold them.

Next time around give him a dose of tylenol before hand, and yes alternate tylenol and motrin. Those baby shots are tough, it honestly does not get any easier with the shots, at least it didn't for me.

We heard that might help but just thought we would see how he does with them. At the next appt we'll definitely give him a little dose before we go. He's pretty much back to normal now, all is right in his little world again.

Our 4 year old is overdue for her shots, that is kinda a bad age. Will never forget our oldest when I took her around the same age and she cried after the first one while I was holding her and said no daddy don't let them give me anymore. You know it is for the better for them, but it still tears you up.
